Default Vc 625

I want one so bad I can taste it but whether I buy one depends on whether I can justify it or not. My 460 is a monster and fits my need well. I like the silent starter/generator and the pedal start much more than I like the sound of a gear starter on my brothers Mule for instance. It kinda grates on my ears sorta like fingernails on a chalkboard
Between a big single cylinder thumper and a V-twin to me the single thumper wins hands down. I remember years ago when Harley sold a single cylinder thumper motorcycle that exhaust note was music to my ears as it traveled at highway speeds. Best I remember it was a big bore, long stroke tunning at low rpms reminding me of an old engine in a tractor more than an engine in any other motorcycle. A cammed up v-twin sounds awesome but I don't like the loud noise needed for that cammed up sound anymore as I get older and for the reasons I use my cart for anyway. Muffled, the v-twins don't have the same effect on me :-)

If today I had a choice in the VC 460 and the 625 I'd jump on the 625 so fast as to make ones head spin but thats not the case as I already have the 460.

Now if someone wants to buy my 460 at a reasonable price, both for the buyer and the seller, me, I'd have to entertain that option for sure.

like I said I'd love to have the VC625.

Just Saturday morning Musing.

Peace

I could try telling Aaron I somehow lost my 625 and see if he will send me a new one. Wait, that's not going to work he watches these threads.

I think the rpm will be more limited on the 625, hence less top speeds with same gearing. I will stick with the cam (in my case a 420 with the vegas 460 cam and rod and other mods) so I can blow past 5K rpm here and there. Not to say it would not be better in a different build, but I'm happy with my cart the way it runs now. Depends on what you want from your cart, 625 should have piles of grunt no doubt. For me its fun to let it scream once in a while.

Seems like to get the full benefit of the new 625 ones got to have to rethink the drive train. Everybody wants more speed so they get higher gearing. In the end there still red lining the engine and not happy. We need a 2 or 3 speed transmission that can be worked onto the cart. I've seen them on Alaiaba [the china sales site] Trouble is the shipping.

I was on a site not to long ago that had 2 speed rear axles and bolt on 4 wheel drive set ups for golf carts. Problem was the 2 gear ratios were 15:1 and 8:1 so I lost interest fast.

I've got an old cushman two speed tranny that is still in good condition. Seriously doubt it could stand the torque or hp of one of these Vegas Cart monsters though

It sure felt good to hammer the 460 for the 100 yards or so that I did the other day. Talk about setting one back in the seat it sure did that. I was too busy hanging on to look at my tiny tac or the bicycle speedo so I have no idea as to how fast we got up too. In my mushroom foraging I have no need for speed but when I go to eat breakfast or to the store I like to stay up with traffic and the gearing I have with the stock DS and this 780 clutch I can do that too. 35 is our speed limit here in town.
The fascination I have with the 625 is the oil pump and the fully shrouded engine. I put shrouds on my 460 first thing because I've known of air cooled engines that were ruined because someone took the tin off and they got too hot. On a 100 degree day the oil temperature on my 460 as it is now will climb up to 210 degrees and on a 40 degree day it will finally make it up to 195. I really don't want to see temps up any higher than that. The head temp right beside the spark plug runs in the 210 degree range whether its 100 degrees out or 40 degrees out.

Our mower has the 22 hp v-twin Kawasaki engine on it and the owners manual states that the oil temp will be 100 C. I added an oil cooler from a 25 hp to it and that cheesy little piece didn't change the oil temp one bit. After mowing the 1 acre yard the oil temp will be 212 degrees no matter the outside temperature. I've got a long stem temp gauge from a turkey fryer that I checked and it reads right on in boiling water or in water filled with crushed ice so I know it reads correct.
Most times when I start my cart I'll be running it for two, three hours or so. Very little short runs for me

You have an oil temp gauge hooked up to your 460? I would like to put one on my 460.

You can buy a m12 to a 1/8 mpt adapter. I had to drill the hole out on the adapter to fit the sensor on the electric gauge though. you can use the unused drain plug to put that in.

My 20hp onan has an oil cooler it is maybe 10"x4" piped into the remote oil filter. Have no idea how hot it gets, the cooler is actually behind it so the hot air blows on it but that air is not really hot I can hold my hand in it and its warm. The warmer air off the heads misses it mostly. Can not really figure out a fan that would get cool air into it, but it was made that way and no problems with them so assume it works ok. Could move to front but then it would get full of grass clipping I think.

Yes an oil pump is nice. Have to say when the yamaha drive came out everyone said where is the oil pump. Yamaha said we have no failures with this splash engine, it is just more parts to fail and more weight and expense, so we are keeping the proven splash design that is simpler.

For mods it would be nice, though with the vegas cam and mods I have I would not call it radical, it is mostly the higher rpm that is a problem and the billet rod solves that. And they do not seem to blow up for not having an oil pump so hard for me to say it must have one. I doubt they would be $300 with one. But yes, it would be nice and easy to add extra cooling that way. You could even get a remote filter part to fit a larger filter that takes a quart say, and you just added to your oil capacity. NAPA used to have different ones.
