Default Condition of spark plug 460

Here is what my plug looks like now after installing the adustable main jet in my carb.

I ran 3/4 mile at 4500 rpms then pulled off the highway into a drive. Removed the plug and here is what it looks like
To make sure I was on the right track I put the torch F6TC plug that came with the engine back in it for this test run. I adjusted the high speed jet at 2700 rpms in neutral. screwed it in until the engine stumbled and almost died then backed it out about one maybe one and a quarter turns. Go from a 920 rpm idle to wide open with out any hesitation at all. Really drives good with gobs of power

The third pic is of the autolite 3910 racing plug, (IIRC,) I have been running and this pic is after a 10 mile run at mostly moderate speeds in the woods yesterday. A lot of the time I was traveling at 10 mph or less

ETA: I can keep on twisting that jet out for several turns without any change in rpms but I do notice the exhaust having a different smell. gassy smell. As I have it adjusted now it kicka$$ and starts and runs super good.

ETA2: I went back out and revisited the high speed adjustment as this first two photos seem to have a tad more soot than I like. Rev the engine up to 3500 rpms, turned the high speed screw in until the engine started to stumble and lose speed. Opened the jet just enough to smooth the engine out and a tad more. 1/8 turn. The rpms went up to 3590 - 3600 rpms. Cart seemed to come alive with this adjustment. I didn't get a chance to run it back down the road but as soon as we have another nice day I'll do that and recheck the plug.
Also I had at some point purchased a motorcraft 63 plug. It has the tiny center electrode so I put it in and the engine seemed to idle smoother. Picked up 50 rpms at idle just from the plug change.

Looks like your getting the color of the plug right. I did notice that there was a difference in how the Ebay needle adjusted. It is blunt and not a true needle. It uses a smaller main jet then the other one I'm using. The jet kit from ECC is a true needle jet. Has a large main jet and the needle is sharp and will make you bleed if your not careful.
I'm not sure what version Autolite plug your using but there is a difference in the pictures your showing. There's a 3910 with a short electrode like your showing. The performance comes from the Autolite AR3910X -- its a surface firing plug. This plug by nature runs cold and has a 50 hour life according to Autolite. This plug causes a noticeable increase in power over the Torch spark plug.

After supper I went out to the shop to see how it starts cold. My choke is that wire, (actually a 3/32 welding rod,) running from the choke lever on the carb straight to the body under the seat. I have a spring on it to ensure its stays open and when I use the choke its only for a short duration so I hold it choked then release it and it springs back open. Anyways I only had to use the choke for a second and the engine settled down to the same idle pretty much as when its warmed up. Much better running engine even though it ran pretty dung good before I put this adjustable main jet in.

The speed that the engine seems to want to idle best at is 970 rpms. It seems that the compression release kicks in shortly below that

In all this when I put the autolite XS63 plug in was when I really noticed a difference in smoothness in idle. Just all around better running with that plug. Tiny .6 mm center electrode. This 460 seems to sure like this plug. I'll have to run it a mile or so at high rpms to check the color but from looks at the weather I might not be able to do that for a few days or weeks now. The makings for a blizzard coming down from Colorado way. Wish it would bring a little smoke along with that nasty a$$ weather my way LOL

In that photo you can see the new carb isolator that I modified, by cutting the 'tits' off and smoothing it out. Originally the spark plug wire runs in those protrusions but with the fuel pump port in the way they were just uglying up my engine so they had to go You can also see my choke apparatus. I had purchased the choke mechanism for the honda engine that uses vacuum to pull the choke off but never did use it. Didn't like the looks of it on my setup is all.

On a whim I looked on eBay last night and there was a listing forthe one like I had purchased earlier and am using. So I purchased it and will get it first of the week. I plan to put the needle in my lathe, if you can call a grizzly lathe/mill a lathe, and see if I can keep the same taper and bring it to a point. I've got the drill bits to take a little meat out of the jet, plus I have a couple extra jets to play with now. I can see that an adjustable main jet is worth whatever it cost, within reason that is, because there definitely is a difference in my engine from the drilled out main to where I am now. Before I changed to this adjustable jet I had the honey colored plug so I had it pretty close to spot on.

I had not seen any listed for a while and wondered if he had stopped production. But I see his pattern returns where only a couple at a time are offered for sale.
