KF82 Knocking, time for Lifan?
Hey guys, I appreciate all the troubleshooting help I received with the golf cart (88' club car ds) so far. I decided to replace the motor with a lifan 420 Instead of having the weak KF82 rebuilt. I've watched a few videos and read the Vegas Carts instructions.
Still have a few questions. Lifan has a 18amp charger, which I'm assuming makes the one on my cart obsolete, right? Right now I have this on my list of stuff to buy(Not getting gen bracket) Mounting bracket for GX390/clone Extended Throttle Cable for 84-91 Club Car DS Club Car Throttle Box Relocation Brackets Club Car DS Header for GX390/Clone Swap - No Muffler What else? I'm not seeing much in the way of wiring instructions on the vegas carts website, am I missing something? Thanks so much!! |

If using stock clutch get a taper adapter
Also carb isolator with vacuum port I also usually use a Honda part for remote choke operation can’t remember the part # I also usually reuse the club car muffler with a flex fitting in between the header and muffler |

Since the VC 460 usually uses the stock S/G the only wiring change is adding an ignition kill circuit. But if you are going to use the lifan's starter and charging system some wiring will need to added. IMHO using the stock S/G make the swap very simple and works great. Golf carts have been using the system all along.

Awesome info so far, thanks!
In your opinion, should I just buy the $750 kit and use the vegas clutches or just reuse my own? I didn't see the carb isolator and clutch adapter on the website, but I'm sure they sell them. Thanks!! |

Re: KF82 Knocking, time for Lifan?
Some of that depends on what kind of shape your present clutch is in. BUT if you use the adapter and not the comet 780 you must cut and and tap deeper the crank. If you decide later the clutch wasn't all you had hoped for you would have to replace the crankshaft to use the 780. IMHO the 780 is the way to go. As far as the kit itself that depends on your fab skills. With the kit the whole swap can be done in an afternoon. Without the kit ??? The clutch adapter is in the clutch section and the isolator is in the carb and timing section. One last note if I were doing an engine swap now it would be buying one of the beta testing kits for the super low price with the 625 cc engine.

Ray has a good point about the stock starter generator unless you might like turning the cart into a UTV that idles. In that case you will definitely want the 780 clutch from VC. I really like my cart like a UTV now so I wouldn't go back. Depends on your preference. I do a lot of stuff at night where I like the engine idling while I leave the lights on.
Here is the remote choke bracket you will need. http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/ho...0-ZE2-812.html |

Mine is set up with a key start with the S/G and I idle it a lot at nite with the lights on of which are all the LED type.

Re: KF82 Knocking, time for Lifan?
My main issue right now is time, two small businesses and three younger kids (12,8 and 4) and I don't think I have time to cut and tap the crank, and various other modifications just to save a few $100. I think I'll get the kit then.
I ordered the Lifan 420 from home depot, what sort of #'s do you think I'll see with the 780R and the 420? I have 23" tires. Just a raw estimate.. Lastly, I'm at about $1,100 buying the complete kit and engine, I thought the 625's were $1,600? I like the thought of the 625, but my kids will be driving this beast in a few years, I just want decent acceleration, and about 30mph top. Thanks!! |

BTW, UTV idea sounds great! I may do that down the road.

That is the hot setup if you have room in the engine bay. Especially the LED lights. The only regular bulb I have on when running slow is a tiny bulb in a license plate light as a dash light.
