Another question about Vegas cart carbs
So there are two carbs available on the vegas cart site, the newer one has a bigger venturi and a 3rd circuit while the older one has the 21 mm venturi and no third circuit? So I have a clone 390 Greyhound and have no desire to run it as fast as possible but rather just to be able to reliably work around our property and have a cart that is lower vs higher maintance/need less tuning, etc. etc. With that in mind which carb should I buy? I tend to lean toward the older one but i'm willing to be educated and informed.

Re: Another question about Vegas cart carbs
I would go with the older 460 carburetor because you can adjust the air/fuel mixture. The newer carb has a fixed and glued adjustment so if it doesn,t run quite right -- you'll have to figure out how to get the broken off air/fuel screw out.

Re: Another question about Vegas cart carbs
I'd go with a scooter carb maybe like a PZ carb, however that may require a lot of work to fit it to the engine and an airbox. I have a CV carb on mine now and it runs really nice far as starting and smoothness. I had an issue with limiting top end and pulled the spring up its better, but before that it ran as fast as the stock 420 carb anyway. When I put the new cam in the clone it was not better so I knew it was not right. I have a slide carb to try now that is not a CV carb, I might put the CV on the stock 420 clone it runs so good. Its a 32mm carb but sure it will work fine. No missing or surging, it runs great for normal use. But yes I ended up making a whole new intake for it, it is a project to do. I agree for a bolt on your best bet is the adjustable vc460 carb.
I mean the lawn based carbs work they just don't work as well as a better designed carb made to not run on a governor like a lawn carb is. |
