Default HF 420CC...wheres this wire go??

I have a pedal start, gas, generator/starter cart...HF420cc, VC 24mm carb, HD springs and rods, governor removed.

So I replaced my B&S with a HF 420cc. The B&S had two wires coming from the ignition coil and were plugged in..and the HF has 1 and I didn't plug it in...I've been running it without hooking up the ignition wire I guess. Lol. Is that ok?

Anyway, for a while I've had backfires when decelerating. Pop,pop, big bang! So after some research I adjusted the idle mixture screw. Clockwise all the way and backed it off 1 1/2 turns. And for some reason I decided to plug the ignition wire from the HF into one of the 2 wires coming from my cart. Well it ran great! No back firing at all. I could go WOT and hold it without it begging down. I thought I finally found the cheat code. I was so happy. Parked it after riding around for 5 mins.

The wife gets in to go pick up the kids and....no start! I out clear hoses on so I could see there fuel. I pulled off the fuel line and started it to make sure the pulse pump was working. That's fine. I adjust the idle mixture screw a bit to see if that does anything and while doing so, my screw driver hits part of the cart while the tip is touching the engine and I get a SPARK! There's a live current on my block! I assume that's not good and attribute it to the ignition wire I hooked up. Guess I hooked it up to a live wire from my cart? I unplug it and the engine is no longer giving off a spark when I touch it with the screw driver.

SO...I test the spark plug by pulling it out and grounding it to the cart to see if there's any spark. No spark. So I screwed something up....

1. How can I tell if the ignition coil is bad or if it's a solenoid? Since it was never hooked up to anything before I assume the ignition coil is bad..?
2. Where do I plug the ignition coil wire in to!? Or do I not need too??
3. I'm not good with electric. I'm ok. Buuuut I need help and need to get this running!

Second picture of the two wires coming from the cart that the B&S used. And the solenoid. I don't know what for... and I was using the cart without these wire plugged into anything. It ran..not great..and I dont think my battery was charging.

The HF 420 has one wire that comes off the coil. That one wire from the coil if you were to ground it would stop the engine. Normally this wire from the coil is hooked up to an ignition switch of a kill switch. You can see this one wire by pulling off the blower housing.

That might be the wire from the charge coil, if your engine came with electric start. If you're using a starter/generator you can leave that unplugged.

Do you have a heavy ground cable from the battery to your engine block? Make sure your block is grounded and the connection is good.

Nope I left the charging coil wire unplugged. Basically I hooked a live wire up too the kill wire on my HF420cc. Now she gives no spark. I ordered a new ignition coil. Hopefully this works.

Just curious, you replaced a Briggs v twin with a single cylinder engine?

It was a Briggs Vanguard single cylinder. Pretty sure it was a 390cc
