Predator 670 throttle / clutch / governor adjustments
So, still working on my 670cc repower
Comet 780 is staying engaged even at low idle. When I try to start it, really bogging down and dying. I cannot idle it down any more and keep it running. Should I try to put 2000 rpm weights and springs in the clutch? It was setup before for a lower rpm briggs Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |

Re: Predator 670 throttle / clutch / governor adjustments
When my belt is too tight it will stay engaged and be very hard to shift. I have 1.5” of deflection minimum. I have the cvtech primary clutch vs your comet. What brand cart you have, mine is ezgo. My 670 will idle at 1000 rpms, too much lower and the decomp kicks in. Hope this helps.

Re: Predator 670 throttle / clutch / governor adjustments
May be helpful to look at Vegas Carts install instructions for the Predator v twin. They suggest removing one of the governor springs on the throttle linkage and replacing with a steel welding rod or something similar. This made a huge difference for me. This is on one of the last pages of instructions. This allowed mine to idle lower, the spring kept the idle too high. Installing your tach will help a lot. From the video yours looks to be idling high yet. Mine idles smoother at low rpms as it breaks in.

Re: Predator 670 throttle / clutch / governor adjustments
Well, took the ancient 780 off to have a look. Yellow springs, so 1800 rpm. But, I can easily squeeze the clutch together, so I'm guessing that these springs are shot. Who knows how old they are...
Tiny tach on the way and I popped the covers off of the adjustment jets to make it a little richer at low idle. Idling down all the way (idle screw ) now. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |

Re: Predator 670 throttle / clutch / governor adjustments
If you get the idle richened usually you can idle down to the comp release, that is usually good spot just a tad higher. If clutch is grabbing do you have at least 1.5" of play at rest? When I put the 94c on my G9 I had to move the engine closer to the trans it wanted to engage funny, then not shift until rpm went way high. Then engine was hitting trans. Finally got a longer belt (this is a built up 420 clone) and moved the engine farther away from trans and got the belt loose enough, it works much better now with the longer belt. Now the G9 and 94c are pretty much the same size and take same belt, but go figure. The 94c was new, but the 420 was mounted with exactly same center distance as stock. Another issue is a new belt can be sticky until it wears in and gets some dust on it.
