useful performance information
I have a 1996 ezgo workhorse/actually a jacobsen hauler with steel bed. Switched to 420 clone from Vegascarts with their "24mm bored carb". Used to have their tuned carb. Need suggestions on an engine and carb set up to use the cart as its intended purpose besides oem setup --not to pull wheelies and race corvettes. tired of smelling gas, passing gas into the oil all the time, and through drilling and changing jets to no avail. I have the return fuel line and done all I can do. My hands are up.

Re: useful performance information
Vegascarts doesn't sell a 420. Do you have the VC460 or some 420 with a VC carb on it ? An adjustable main jet makes carb tuning on these engines quite easy. Another option would be a stock oem honda 390 carb some people think they are the best. NRracing sells either of these items.

Re: useful performance information
The 440 was the first engine that I seen they produced. Maybe a brand new stock honda 390 is what would serve you. It should bolt right in. That is probably the cheapest alternative to some other power plant. I see they sell for $600 brand new.

Re: useful performance information
There's a lot one can do to improve the performance of the VC's latest little clone carb. The 24mm 3 circuit carburetor can be as close as you can get to a racing carburetor with the right upgrades. An adjustable main jet takes care of the mid and hi side rpm. I've worked up a way to get the broken off air/fuel mixture screw out and then I make a new one that hand adjusts. The idle stop screw is a pain cause you need a tool to adjust it. This is what I run on both my 460's.
For an engine - if you have the skills VC still sell the 460cc clone in kit form. You can add to and improve it even more cause your to one building it. Good luck whatever way you go. |

Re: useful performance information
P.S. My engine is a may of 2014. Probably out of the first batch of 460's they produced.
