Default Cvtech clutch in txt with clone swap?

Hey guys. I have a question about clutching. I initially built my clone swaped E-Z-Go txt with a predator 420 and a stock clutch. It works poorly and I am looking to upgrade to either the comet 780 or the cvtech from Vegas carts. I was planning on going with the cvtech but called yesterday and was told that it would not fit my E-Z-Go with a clone swap. I was under the impression that the clutch was made for that. I am upgrading my engine at the same time to a 440 vc that has small upgrades. If I am forced to go with the 780 does anyone know if the vegas clutch is upgraded or is it just a standard 780. I know they added the r but I'm not sure if it really means anything. Thanks for any help in advance.

You can use the CVtech with an EZGO equipped with a starter generator. It is done often.

However, if you cut down your crank shaft which normally people do to retain the OEM clutch than the crankshaft is not too short and will not work with an aftermarket clutch because they is not enough "Meat" to safely install an aftermarket clutch.

What Aaron didn't say was you could buy a new 69 mm crank for $60 from VC and use either clutch.

I just use key start for my cart so no s/g.

I did cut off my crank, but I'm replacing the motor with a Vegas carts 440 with a stock crank. I was planning on the stroker crank until the 440 came along.... :)

So good to go on the cvtech? Is that the best choice? I appreciate the help!

I have the comet 780 R from VC with the springs and weights all changed around. I don't know if the CVtech is as easily altered.Maybe Aaron can advise you on that point. I am a pavement runner so fast shift over along with low cruising rpms were my goals. Going off road you would want a different set up than I am using.

My cart is a lifted woods runner with 25s. Torque is my goal. I built my dad's cart with the 780 from vc and I love it. I saw the cvtech listed as a big upgrade on the website so I want the best! :)

If the CV Tech clutch works good out of the box - great. If you want to change the shift characteristics -- where do you get parts? Comet 780 parts - just about everywhere. What I want to understand is -- how can the comet 780 transfer 4 cycle 16-18 hp @ 5000-5500 rpm --- THEN ---- 2 cycle 30 hp @ 10,000 rpm max. Why is there such a difference between 2 cycle hp and 4 cycle hp?

With 390-460 engine and the 780 clutch there are NO other engine/clutch combo that has even a fraction of the options available like these have. There are tons of suppliers and tons of info on how to achieve whatever end result you wish for.

I love this forum.

So it sounds like the consensus is that the 780 is the way to go. Like I said... I used one on my dad's cart. He's sporting a lifan 420 and it works great.
The only thing I need to decide is where to buy it. I'll happily give vc my business if there's is set up for the clone for the extra money. I wish the website laid this out a little bit more clearly. As they've changed the engines they sell, it seems less clear what works best with what...it would be nice to know what if any spring/roller upgrades the 780R has to weigh out value over other sellers. (Which they may have listed 10 time an my thick head just missed;)

Like I said - there are a ton of options for the comet 780 available everywhere. Are there any tuning parts available for the CV-tech clutch? I'm not saying one is better then the other -- I want to where to buy parts for the CV-tech if they can be had.
