Default How much stock clone parts are left ?

The question arises how much of original the clone parts are left many of our engines. In the case of the VC 460, of the main components only the cylinder head, which some of us have modified considerably, the outer tins, pull starter, main bearings, seals and some gaskets, balance shaft, and lifters are every day 7 bolt clone parts. Most every other part is either VC only or speed equipment maker produced. In the valve train push rods, valve springs, rocker arms, even valve guides and seals are many times changed out for performance. With the valve themselves the options range from many sizes of SS to titanium units. With springs again all sorts of pounds pressure and single and double configurations. Retainers range from merely using lash caps on both valves to automotive type retainers made of aluminum or titanium. So when we say we are running a honda clone it is sort of a misnomer.

I think the 'clones' is just a name for non-honda and old model gx based copies, though some clones have UT2 now. My 420 is mostly stock parts really, only different parts are the cam/pushrods/rockers/springs and the rod. Sure the head is cut and ported, the piston is cut down, but still stock parts. Anything outside the head is not stock including carb/airbox/intake/exhaust. I do have a stud kit for a car that should fit the side cover, once in a while those bolts come loose. Though in typical cart use I hardly ever go over 5K rpm its too fast for the offroad places I ride it, now that it will go 42mph with stock gears and 22 tires. I don't yet know what it will do with the new smaller 30mm slider carb, but not really caring that much.

Yes that's just my 420 I bought before the VC460 was out, darn it. Some of you have done much more with your clones. Mine runs nice and given the multi use of this cart I don't see a need to do more on power and speed, but the new carb may help jetting and performance issues I have with the CV. If it were to blow up I'd likely fix it or get a 460 block, but I rather get another cart and likely I would go with a twin or other setup since I have done two clones already. There are more options out there now hard to not explore them. Unless I had something else that needed a clone, it would be fun to build one up more or even build up a gx200.

I ALMOST bought an EZGO work cart to put Suzi's engine in. In some ways I am glad it didn't work out. Would have been a fair amount of work and what would have become of poor Suzi ?

Yeah to me carts are not about performance and perfection or you should have a UTV. Some are about style, some about engine swaps, some just looks, some are retro, some are just slow transport as they were built for, some for huge tires, some just for personal entertainment, etc.
