Unhappy vapor lock?? 16hp clone

Okay..I've been running the new engine for awhile now, and I run into the mysterious problem. At first I thought it was the old electric pump I was using. It (the pump) would never run consistant, so I thought it was just running out of fuel fromt the pump stopping. I couldn't even make 100ft from the drive before it would konk out. I would wait a few seconds (30-60) and it would fire up again. So I switched over to a pulse pump tied into the rocker cover. Got it running and headed down the street. made it about a quarter mile and it died. Opened the seat and it's pretty hot. Jiggled the fule line a little and waited. Started up and I got just about home and it died once again. Same thing...My exhaust uses the stock manifold from the engine. Then at the flange it makes about a 110degree turn and runs diagnal across the engine and down towards the rear and I tie it into a motorcycle muffler in the stock location. None of the fuel lines are running close to the exhaust. I'm thinking header wrap to keep the "underhood" temps down. Any other ideas why it dies randomly?? Something electric??? this is a 16hp Carroll Stream electric start engine.

How much angle is the engine sitting on? May have carb float sticking.

I've had vapor lock problems on a boat before. A couple things we did to test it....
- test the fuel pressure under various conditions. Harbor Freight has an inexpensive pressure gauge that you can install inline & leave it for a while.
- when the issue crops up, try wrapping a cold wet towel around the fuel pump. After a few minutes, try starting it again.

I actually solved it by wrapping the fuel line with insulation.

it's not horizontal to the ground. I have a 7.5" lift installed. I did drop the front of the cradle down about 3" by making a new bracket where the cradle meets the frame. but it's still not horizontal. I wondered about this as well. When I first got it running I was having trouble with it stalling driving it up onto a trailer. I thought the oil level switch was kicking in, making it stall, but it does it on flat ground as well.

I run mine from valve cover also,no problems . Make sure there's a dip in the pulse line so oil won't stop it.hookm

Running lean can make them run hot what does the plug look like? Are you sure its fuel starvation/vapor? Otherwise it sounds like a bad coil/condenser/trigger issue if it stops when it gets to running temp. I just mounted one with the cylinder slightly higher hope it works well that way, cylinder is to the rear of cart.
