Re: Pics of a clone motor installed in a club car
I did one in a yamaha, it nearly hits the rear shock with the air intake, but its not the same as a CC....but might give you some ideas. Making the mount was the easy part....doing all the plumbing was the hard part.

Yes that clutch did rub the frame and I had to grind to get it to fit. However that clutch (comet 94C) is no longer available and you may find what ever is available now to have a lower profile. I don't know what is available for this ... contact Tom at CPP for clutches.
In answer to your question; The whole clone engine swap is no less than a motor conversion. It is not simple. If fact a big block kit would be much easier to do . Things to modified to make it work; Engine cradle Clutch / Belt Air cleaner throttle linkage fuel delivery Exhaust system Ignition system It did work ..... but I suggest the original motor over the clone. Other members may have had different results. The original motor and cart were designed to work together ... this motor & your cart are not... it's all experimental and you may end up having to redo things many times to get the desired results if you have not done this before. I think everybody who starts this type of project should go into it with their eyes wide open. |

Re: Pics of a clone motor installed in a club car
If you can handle fabrication and welding, its a very easy swap. If you haven't fabricated/welded before, this is quite the task to undertake.
I'm actually upgrading my 16hp club car to a twin in a week or two and well have the complete 16hp swap for sale shortly. It will be a complete drop in swap ready to run with wiring, belt, clutches, engine plate etc. |

Re: Pics of a clone motor installed in a club car
The only fabrication and welding I had to do was bend some small brackets to make my new throttle linkage and weld the new exhaust flange to the new exhaust I made. Its not really a big deal, but it did require a welder and a pipe bender to make the exhaust. I think a lot of people on here just use the factory exhaust. There is a little bit of electrical work but if you cant figure it out there are a ton of people on here that will help you. Honestly the hardest part of the install for me was to get the belt tension right so I could drill my new mounting holes for the motor. I installed both clutches and the belt with the motor loose on the cradle and then I had to square it up and mark my holes to mount it. If that is the right way to do it another set of hands would have made it a lot easier. Good luck

Re: Pics of a clone motor installed in a club car
I found a piece of lumber that just fit between the clutches, then used a straight edge to measure the offset. Set the engine in and lined it up, took the end off a metal scribe and marked the holes. Took engine out and drilled them, all done. Earlier when I made the mount I just got it roughly in the right spot, checked clearance for everything else around the engine and the starter, etc., got the height I wanted for the mount and welded the mount together.

I'm installing a 16hp Duromax in an '86 CC DS, looking at Scotty's Pics above, will this muffler work out of the box and connect right up for my build? |
