Watch Craigslist, mower shops, and any other places you can think of.You can get Vanguards from Simplicity and Cub-Cadet riders,Power-washers,etc..My Dad bought a few for $150-250 each, some still in the mower.Pulled them out, cleaned them, and installed.Just don't get one from a generator unless you intend to tear it down and replace the crank-shaft(they have a special,short-taper).Hope this helps.

This guy had a V twin listed but looks like its gone, he was trying to get one. I have read those and the diesels have a snag with the EPA. The diesel twins have been around for a while and you can't get them here. In the UK they put them in old motorcycles and zip around 50mph and get 100mpg or whatever.

He shows the diesel but out of stock

I bought my 16hp clone from him its working well so far, way more power than stock. I could not find a used twin for that around here, and you can buy cams and other performance parts for them. Now home depot has them cheaper depending on what one you get.

Yeah that is about it for budget. I saw a new Kaw 27hp here for 1200, still 1200 bones is more than I paid for my cart that was 8yr old at the time. The 16hp works pretty good, I think with a mild cam it will be pretty impressive. Not a v twin but close and far cheaper, and still new. Maybe things will change by the time I do another cart.

I love my wife! She said if your going to cut up my perfectly good working Cart, it better wheelie! Good stuff. I'll keep looking for a twin, though that 19 horse is attractive.

The cheapest way out new I know of is the 18 vanguard with a rev kit, if you clutch it enough I imagine it will pull the front. They have a great top speed they rev harder than the larger twins (with no other mods). Shop for a deal on a straight shaft one, still have to buy a better clutch if you want it to launch harder. If I could figure out how to mod the stock yamaha clutch I don't know what the 16 would do, it does have a lot of torque I bet close to twins, but if you put a cam in it that could cut the torque to get more rpm hard to say. I talked to a cam place but they still don't want to offer much info on what it does to the powerband. I'll ask TheNewGuy if he thinks his would do it with the better clutch he has.

If I need to put a 23 hp in, that's what I'll look for...

23 will have more torque, and you can mod it later.
