Default What am i missing?

I just installed a 16hp duromax in a 95 CC and it will not shift into forward or reverse while the motor is running. I have loosend the belt, tightened the belt and moved it from side to side trying to find the sweet spot and it will not shift while the motor is running. The cart has a new motor, drive clutch, driven clutch, belt and shift cable and i am out of clues as to why this is doing this. I have the motor idled down as far as i can get it. I do not have the lever that is on the rear end hooked up. I dont even know what it does. Can somebody please tell me what i am missing? Here are some pics that i have taken but if i need to take more, i will.
Thanks

Would this be the lever that shifts from neutral, forward and reverse? Post the pics....

No, its the governor lever arm and i am not sure where it is suppose to connect to. Let me try the pics again.

What drive clutch did you install? Im not that knowledgeable about them but it looks like a factory clutch that you maybe had to machine to get to fit. If so maybe its never disengaging due to the wrong width belt or a really low engagement RPM. Where did you buy the clutches and belt combo from? What RPM are you idling at? How much deflection (up or down movement) do you have on the belt?

Dont worry about the governor arm, you either have a governor still in your motor from the factory or you removed it already, but either way you dont need to hook anything up to the factory governor to make the install work.

If the driven is turning at idle the belt is too tight or the idle rpm is too high. (or wrong belt) Thats all it can be. (unless you got a bad drive clutch.) to me it looks like the belt is too tight.

Put the transmission in gear with the engine off and push the cart. If it tries to turn the drive clutch and the motor then it is too tight for sure.

Is that a 1" shaft clutch with a pulley on it?

The clutch has to open and the belt lays there. One issue you may have is if the belt is brand new it will be sticky and take a little bit to wear in. Dust helps it wear in faster lol. If the cart does not move in gear and the belt is wanting to catch on the drive, it may just be sticky. They will lay there if the clutch is open once broken in. The belt can't be tight, but you can't have it so loose it engages half way up the clutch either. The new clutch may also grab a little more due to machined finish inside. Even when these do work right, you have to shift at idle pretty fast; in neutral the secondary freewheels quite easily. Or you could rig up a little brake on the secondary to stop it when you shift, even a bicycle brake would do it.

I put one of the duromax in my EZGO and have the same problem. It works fine if you idle down far enough. belt is really loose too. But keeping it running at that slow idle is hard to do. I finally just decided to shut it down, shift and restart. Love the 16hp though!

I thought of getting a door lock actuator and putting a brake pad on the secondary. Then put a momentary switch on the shifter to hit when you shift that pops the brake on. A lot of sleds put the brake on the secondary since they are chain drive to the track.

Also you need to have it idle slow, like barely faster than the starter turns it over. If you have a clone you can get the carb rebuild kit on ebay for $15 shipped and it has the idle jet screw. Be really careful because its made to break off and it will. Cut a slot in the old one and its locktighted in there, I held a solder gun on it for a minute and it came right out. Then you can adjust the idle mix should be able to get a pretty slow idle with stock cam.
