When I did mine (G9 yamaha) I measured the distance between the clutches (ripped a piece of 2x4 that just fit) then measured the offset and height of crank. After pulling the old all out, I set the clone in there on a jack and leveled the mount to get rid of engine tilt from the lift. The cylinder hit the trans in that so I ended up tilting it forward a little more and its a little higher than the stock engine was at the crank...but the distance to the secondary clutch is the same so I can use the same belt. Everything cleared so I clamped the mount up and set the engine in again to double check it looked good, I welded the mount together, then marked the block holes, took it out and drilled it. After that its a matter of hooking everything up.

But, before all that I pulled the side cover off and pressed the governor shaft out and removed the gear, tapped the governor hole and plugged it, removed exhaust and airbox. Also cut the cank way off far as I could because I didn't have much room, I left 1.125" of the 1" part of the crank left the minimum for the spacer from CPP. The rest I did while it was in the cart. That was family cart, with mine I'm going to mod the engine just a little for more rpm, going to cut and port the head a little and advance the timing. I hope to find a different carb for it too off a motorcycle/etc. If I can get another 1K rpm out of it once in a while that would be ideal, however the bottom end is great and I was told a big cam may kill that, I'd have to change clutching and since I use the stock clutch that is pretty much not adjustable....the stock clutch and stock clone powerband work great just that the 16/15hp clone does not rev as much as even the stock 13hp will as its the same engine with more displacement. I have the carrolstream see my post in gas yamaha called "clone specs...".

Thanks, this set-up is for my wifes EZGO- So bottom end torque is what I'm after. I got a big surprise coming after I finish her cart. Tonite I pulled the old engine assy. out. Just a bare cradle remains. I see the easiest way is to pull the cradle and diff/assy. and axle housing next. Jump in guys if I get off track! this is my first build. So, my first concern is setting the engine as level in the cradle as possible? should the eng/mtg plate have slotted mtg. holes?

Hotwheels,
Check out the pics in my thread on my duromax build. I had to set the engine a little higher than stock to get it to clear the diff everywhere. I took off only the governor linkage and left the shaft in place. Works great. Mounted the engine on the original bracket with only an easily built platform that bolted to the original. Bottom end id great, and it goes faster than I need to go!

We tilt the 6.5's 15 degrees when we race them and run 16 oz of oil. They tilt the big hondas and briggs 305's also. I wouldn't worry to much about tilting your engines up to 15 if so to clear the diff. We run them at 6000 all the time going in circles

Mine is tilted some too. I was also thinking of climbing a steep hill, how steep until the cylinder gets a drink of oil? I have to order my engine soon here, had to buy something for the house first.

I didn't leave any adjustment in the holes, it would be nice but the factory engine never had any either. However the G9 does have a cable that pulls on the rubber mounts to limit engine torque so belt length can be adjusted with it some.

Been thinkin I need to pull the trigger on this engine upgrade myself & keep draggin my feet on getting started. I've seen both the threads listed above & it looks like it should be within my skill level (or close). Now I see Maxtool has another series of motors listed..... the Durostar
Doesn't look like there is anything different about it other than the fan shroud & the color. I called them to ask about any difference. The guy said the engines are built in a different factory to the same specs. I guess there is so much demand for them that one factory was not able to keep up.

I also asked about the charging circuit. He said they don't charge a battery at all. Doesn't make any sense considering everything I've read here about them have some kind of 3 amp charger. I was looking at my current generator/starter (still trying to wrap my head around how/why this works). Looks like it pivots from the swingarm on my Marathon & there is a standoff pushing against the motor to adjust the belt tight. But the belt pulley is needed to make it work. Which means I should order the EZGo clutch & clutch adapter.

Anyone know if I will need to cut the crankshaft down like it says on the CPP site?

Just talked to Bruce at CPP about getting a clutch for it. He's not much of a fan of using the clones. Said that parts can be tough to come by. But reading about them here, most guys have pretty good luck with them...... as good as the cart engines anyway!

We did some short steep hills here, it was great fun and it just launches the front over the top.

OMHO I'll stick with the Lifan brand clones, they are iirc the largest engine maker in China maybe the world. They are making cars now they are so large. They make motorcycles and stuff too. Check the ones at home depot and carolstream. Mine is a carolstream, but the air cleaner is not that good. The cyclone style has a regular paper element and is above the carb thats better. The electric start should have 3A charge but its not much. The guy at CS told me you can buy another 3A to make it 6A. I don't know about the higher ones some hondas make more than that but the flywheels are different as well and you have to buy all the parts.

The clones are dirt cheap. Lot of people don't like China stuff including me, but when a B&S costs 1200 and a hydrostat 48" lawnmower is 1500 with that engine in it....obviously B&S is bending me (only me, not the lawnmower maker) and so, they can put it where it counts the way I see it. And they been doing it for years. These clones are from when Honda had their engines made there, so what kind of profit margin you think honda had? They just rape you hard, I have no problem taking my business about anywhere else.

I think I would mount a pulley and use the generator or a car alternator. The charging part on the generator is the two little wires.
