Clone vs. Vanguard
I found a used 18hp vanguard for $550, hoping to get it for $500, question is... I can get a 16hp clone for around $300. I have read a lot about both aside from the extra 200-250 are there a lot of other expenses to go with the vanny swap over the clone? Do you have to buy the cradle? Worth it? Thanks in advance... By the way, I haven't bought a gas cart yet, looking for an ez go.

You need an engine cradle, exhaust system(header),switch harness, clutch(or adapter to use factory) & belt with any BB swap so the cost of needed parts to upgrade is the same for both engines.I have a very good used 18 HP vanny that I may sell for $500.Hope this helps! |

So is the extra 200 or so worth it for the vanny?

Personally I think the vanny is far better because of parts availability, quality & all of the upgrades available.I'm not kicking the clone engines as they are great budget alternatives but just not many if any upgrades for them.I live approx. 20 miles north of Montgomery. |

Roger that. If you get serious about selling the engine, let me know. I will probably go look at the other one today. Won't be buying today.

Re: Clone vs. Vanguard
I've read that a Yamaha gets to about 40 with a 18v without governor. Is that about the same in a ez go?

I know I can get 30+ mph on mine with stock gears (and it gets there quickly) but I don't normally drive that fast very long, but to answer the question I'm sure you could get 40+ mph on an Ezgo with the right mods;they just get too loose for me @ those speeds |

Re: Clone vs. Vanguard
I would imagine that would be scary! I just figured if top speed were 40, cruising around thirty would be relatively pleasant.
