Default Cutting crank on a clone?????

I'm installing a Durostar 16hp engine in a 2008 Ezgo workhorse. I see here that everyone is talking about cutting the crank off for clearance issues. Is that really neccasary for the workhorse? My new engine hasnt arrived yet, but by "eye balling" it, it looks like I should have plenty of room without cutting the crank off.

I had to cut about 1/2" off mine. I used a 4" angle grinder & a cutoff wheel from Harbor Freight.... went thru it like butter.

I need to update my build thread on the latest. But lots of details in there. And good comments by other guys who have already done this too.

In a G9 the recoil is maybe .5 inch from the gas tank, that was cutting as much off as I could nearly 2". I left the 1" part of the shaft 1 1/8 long. Part of the problem is the larger shoulder behind the 1" part. You don't have to cut unless you can't fit the engine in there, its not good to have a weight spinning on the end of a long shaft but does not seem to bother these engines. The only hard part is drilling the hole deeper, otherwise its pretty easy with a larger cutoff wheel. I imagine a hack saw would not take that long to cut it. I had a 8" air grinder with a chop saw blade on it lol. Butter is right.
