Default fuel pump to 16hp duromax

I just installed a 16hp duromax in my G9 and im looking for the best way to run my pulse hose to the motor. I dont want to by anything for the carb, so I'm looking to drill in the valve cover or looking for some other suggestions. (some pics would be helpful)

You have to find a place that will not fill with oil. Someone said the cover would work but the top section is outside the valve in there and should have much less signal. Look on AGK's site in the tips section they do a 6.5hp but the cover is different. affordablegokarts.com

They use the side cover of the block or in the valve cover area. I am going to drill the head below where they put it, behind the plug. I bought a 1/8 NPT barb to put in.

I drilled a hole in the carb spacer like this.

Initially I had some problems with lack of fuel pressure (filter didn't even fill up at all). The old EZGo fuel pump must not have had enough ooomph for the 16 hp engine. I picked up a Mikuni fuel pump at a lock Briggs dealer & now the fuel filter is almost always full of gas.

I bought one of those but I don't want to use the intake if I can find a way to do it from the crank. TheNewGuy epoxied a tube in his intake spacer.

sho, what are the downfalls of the carb spacer intake fitting? I was planning on doing mine that way with agk's spacer.

The intake is what makes it overflow the carb. At idle you get the strongest pulse and thus the most fuel. You get less at open throttle but still enough to run ok. With the crank case pulse you get less at idle and more with more rpm, it does not seem to overflow. This one worked but kept plugging the hose with oil, so changed it to intake and had to put a return line in with a tee before the carb. They do seem to run the smaller pumps for gokarts off the intake and they don't overflow maybe can't make as much pressure as larger golfcart one can not sure.

Thanks Sho. Sorry for hijacking the thread Woodman.

I used to have a cushman truckster with a 20hp honda that I wish I still had, it had an electric fuel pump on it that would shut off automatically, I assume based on pressure at the pump??

Aside from cost what are the downfalls of that system? Thanks!

You can get electric pumps that are low pressure. The negative is if something happens and the key is on the pump runs and pumps. While something could leak with the pulse pump, most problems will cause it to stop running or run poorly. The pulse pump is very reliable most sleds and outboards have always used them, they are simple and need no power. I could be wrong but thinking its the red holley pump is the nice one to use, imagine cheaper can be found but the boat guys with 2 strokes use these they can be adjusted down to 2psi/etc for carbs. The regulator is in the pump. The 2 stroke guys go to electric because one little lean spot will melt the motor. They put a splash tank in with this as the pulse pump can take too long to recover sucking air from jumping waves/etc.

There are other pumps, might be some listed in the big block section if you can get a search to pick it up. Only certain ones will go low enough pressure for little carbs.

Ha, I drove a cushman truckster with a onan 20 in it, could have bought it way back then for 600. That thing laid rubber. I was on wet pavement and it didn't stop spinning until the top of 2nd and spun a little into 3rd. Ratty looking but they are battle tanks. I didn't have a use for it and passed. I worked for a place for a while that sold them.

sho305- you said that you drilled the carb spacer and had lack of pressure. Any clue if the Yamaha G9 pump would be fine?

I bought the AGK spacer and the carb overflowed from too much pressure at idle. I used the stock G9 pump and still using it. It worked on the crank but used the governor hole its right over the crank it slung oil into it. If I would have known I would have drilled the side case for fittings to pulse it but we installed the engine too late. For my next one I have a fitting sitting here.

Note the stock G9 runs of what looks like the lower pushrod area, but has a valve that vents to the top of engine, off a tee. I think that lets any oil or extra pressure escape, the pump does not need much to run.
