Engine cradle pics for Workhorse Version 2.0
Ok Scotty, here are a few pics of the new design. I'm not finished with it yet.
Basically I copied the factory design for a couple of reasons. First and foremost is because I dont have a welder and I wanted to get this done this weekend. I believe some type of heim joint on the front side of this mount would work better and look way cooler. I think this should work just fine. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. I flipped the plate over and turned it around because I needed additional lift in the rear and I didnt like the way the plate mounted in the rear originally. I cut about an inch and a half off of one end. I still need to cut the lip down about an inch or less. I mounted the plate in the front between a couple of rubber spacers inside the stock mount. Very similar to the stock design. This should allow the plate to move up and down and tilt side to side just like stock. Thanks Bill |

Re: Engine cradle pics for Workhorse Version 2.0
Any comments or suggestions pro or con before I mount the engine later this afternoon?
Trust me you wont hurt my feelings! lol I lowered the front mount about half an inch since these pics were taken so the engine would be more level. After bolting the plate in I made sure it would pivot with the rear suspension, left, right,up and down. It does! Much better than my first attempt. |

NICE. That is a good simple solution.
Easy enough for anybody who wants to try it... Looking forward to seeing pics of the motor in there... |

Re: Engine cradle pics for Workhorse Version 2.0
Here are a few pics of the engine installed. I plan on changing the exhaust. I dont have enough clearance for the stock muffler. I have to leave the bed raised about an inch.
I dont have the choke hooked up yet. I did relocate the key to the "firewall" for a lack of a better term. The only major problem I'm having now is the starter gets really hot after riding around for a while and starts dragging. I drilled out the main jet because then engine was running a little on the lean side. The engine runs fine. But the starter still gets really hot and drags. I dont recall anyone else having this problem. Any suggestions???? I will post better pics later and explain in more detail what I did for the fuel pump. Thanks, Bill |

Re: Engine cradle pics for Workhorse Version 2.0
Thanks Hookm,
Sounds like you were having the same problem that I am. So, the compression release was the problem? Right? This makes sense. My Son had a Kawasaki Kfx450R that would do the same thing. It drove us nuts until we finally got it figured out. I'm new to these small engines but I'm familiar with how a compression release works on Atv's. Is there anyway to tell if this engine has a compression release with out pulling the cam? I guess I could just check the valve adjustment? I need to find the correct proceedure for doing all of this. Thanks Bill |

Re: Engine cradle pics for Workhorse Version 2.0
Ok, I think I have it figured out.
Piston TDC Valve lash Intake .002 Exhaust .003 These are the specs for a smaller engine. This should be close. |
