First Timer...199? G2 rebuild w/ 16hp
I just looked at my phone and I swear the dates wrong...it must be december because it felt like christmas morning when I went home for lunch...my 16hp finialy showed up!
rewind to last saturday morning...Me and the pops pulled our golf cart fleet our of the weeds. Its a fairly long story about how we acquired the golf carts so we'll just start from last saturday. In order to get my dads running, we had to steal a lot of parts off of mine. This was ok because mine blew up a few months ago. I recently joined a new hunting club and there is a 1 mile gap between the parking area and my stand so I am in need of off road transportation. So, after getting my parents cart up and running I switched gears to rebuild mine. The plan is to get the 16hp in, 6 inch lift to accompany the homemade 2 inch lift and 25" tires. Then build a cargo bed for hunting season. Afterwards, I'm planning on dissasembling and rebuilding it all fancy smancy so people wont pick on me when I ride around the neighborhood! Now, let the pictures begin. I'm not going to sleep until the motor is mocked up so there should be more pictures tonight. |

Where did you order it from? Did you order the clutch with it?

Engine is from Max Tools. $289 plus free shipping(that took forever). Clutch from CPP. It was like $395.

Thanks.......I'm ready to order the same engine. Maxtools was where I was going to get it & just thought I'd ask in case there was another place to get it. What kind of clutch did you get?
How long was "forever"? 3 weeks? 4 weeks? Longer? |

I think I ordered it last Tuesday night. They shipped it out last Wednesday. Guess that's not that long but it seemed like it took for ever! I'm going to mock up a mount right now. Should have more pics in a few hours.

tore the engine apart tonight to get it to fit in the whole. everything turned out pretty good. I just used a peice of wood to sit the motor on so i dont have the mount made quite yet. I did get the throttle roughed in though and have a plan for the choke. Those are two fairly big obsitcles. Now just a few more things to sort out and she'll be up and running. I think i'm going to order the lift tonight too. that way i'll be able to hopefully get it installed this weekend.

I'd be interested to hear what you have in mind for the choke operation. The throttle looks to be fairly straightforward on my Duromax but the clutch lever has the tensile strength of a piece of knitting wool and looks as though it would break off in a mild breeze. Also, (while my engine is reversed for a CC axle), How do you you plan to control the length of the throttle cable to prevent over stressing the pivot arm on the carb ? I had thought about using a spring between the arm and the cable to prevent this from happening.
All thoughts appreciated. Chris. |

Re: First Timer...199? G2 rebuild w/ 16hp
Got my cart running today. Still a lot to finish up but atleast I can see the end now. The main things left are throttle and clutch linkage and getting the electric start wired correctly. Also have to do some steering work. I installed a allstar life and have run into a few steering problem. No biggie though. I'm planning on taking it to the hunting club next weekend. We'll have to see though. I've got a few more pictures and a video of it just about running over my brother. I'll post them tomorrow.

Got the cart running sorta today. Drove it around the yard. Steering is real shaky and the motor's not running 100% yet but it's coming along. Going to figure out the throttle linkage tomorrow hopefully. Here's a pretty funny video of us last night.
