Default Exhaust pics of Ezgo with Durastar 16hp clone

Here are a few pics of my 2000 Ezgo Workhorse with aftermarket exhaust.

Ok, a few comments first.

I think the finshed product looks great but really isnt that much quieter than the stock exhaust that came on the clone. I used a quite muffler for a import car from a muffler shop. It cost $90 installed. I believe some of you guys could come up with something less expensive.

This engine makes alot of noise from the valve train and the intake if you run an open filter.

I had to go with this option because I had a clearance issue with the stock muffler and I also wanted to get the exhaust to exit from the rear of the cart instead of right behind me.

Bill

Its not that quiet? You could try running the tail pipe to the other side, longer TP will make it quieter. I want to do that, you saying its not that quiet is not making me smile. Or could be the muffler is not that quiet, hard to say, I figured pick a car that is really quiet and use that muffler? Half of them use two mufflers now.

It does not bend the pipe when the suspension compresses?

I grabbed a car airbox and the rubber hose out of a boneyard and used that. Then went more; the box was mounted in the front corner ahead of engine but I ran 2" pvc out of it up to under the front cowl. You hear it suck a little when floored and coming toward you, but you don't hear much of anything on the cart. But he put a turbo style oval muffler on it and its not real quiet. It is about like a big kohler lawnmower roughly, and has no tailpipe at all. You can find generator or stock CC mufflers pretty cheap, I think maybe a pair of those would flow enough and be quiet if a car muffler is not going to work. Could also point the TP at the ground.

I should have said it's not as quite as I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to sound like a stock Honda Civic. I now realize most small cars have a converter and a resonator upstream of the muffler that really knocks the sound way down.

The open air filter is a source of some of the noise.

This cart is no louder than a stock rhino or mule. It sounds fine. If my wife can tolerate it anyone can.lol

The muffler and tail pipe are supported by a flexible hanger that you cant see very well in the pictures. So far no problem. I ran it through the woods over downed trees and in and out of some ditches with no issues yet.

Moving slow for me too and I can peak over 60bps on a test.

I'd like to be quiet as a stock cart. I once had a muffler off equipment with a 45hp diesel I used on a generator, it was really quiet all I heard was the fan running on an 8hp B&S.

I ran the pipe to the front for air because we get so much dust in the engine area, its really bad I hardly see any pavement there. And the filters are $7 lol.

It looks like a really nice install. I thought about buying a header for it from a kart place and putting a muffler after that. Not sure what muffler yet. Working lot of hours can't do much here yet.

I also tried a generator muffler. It reduced the exhaust sound but still had a lot of high pitch noise. Sounded like a lawnmower going down the road. Since then I've installed a Camaro v-8 muffler and it is not as quiet, but it has reduced the high pitch lawnmower sound and people say it sounds kinda like a Harley. I like it. At low speeds just cruising around, it's not that loud. Just a low rumble. The more horsepower the louder it's gonna be. I don't think we can make them as quiet as the stock 9hp engines, but I've been proven wrong before.

Clayfor, lol, I hear you it may be a matter of how much hassle do you want to get it quiet. A big tailpipe also helps the yami has that on G9 and I think others without it is just inside the muffler...though some mufflers like cars assume you will put one on in use and have room for it. I just asked walker lets see what they say lol.
