Re: considering a 16 hp 4 stroke engine swap
It will be some fabrication work, but once done you will be all grins. If you want reverse you kind of have to get a 4 stroke rear. You can put a bravo sled engine in a yami G1 for more power, adapt the G1 crank pickup, then the engine will still run in reverse....but I don't know how to do it on any other 2 stroke cart. In a G9 the 16hp clone feels like twice the power, it will spin 22s very impressive compared to stock. I been working weekends I need to get some good video of it before winter.

Re: considering a 16 hp 4 stroke engine swap
I did a yami G9, used the stock gen/starter and stock clutch. It does have a cut secondary sheave it wore through so I replaced with a cut one for lower gear. All we did is make a new mount on the old one, dropped the front down to level the engine with the lift, set the same distance/offset between clutches and mounted it. The gen just fit in front in the stock location with the starter on the clone also for backup. I had to make a new tension bracket for the gen to engine but used the stock lower mount that is part of the engine mount. I wired up a relay to ground the clone when the pedal is off. I had to make throttle and choke linkages, made a whole air intake with a car airbox. Used the stock yami exhaust flange and made up an exhaust with a car muffler. I had rebuilt both clutches the summer before I did the clone with new sheaves and all. We tow some trailers and climb some hills and that helps. But with the clone it revs much faster on takeoff because it has so much more power, the stock clutch actually works much better it reacts faster but runs near the same rpm I'd say. Aftermarket might work better yet for trail riding, but this you can still drive just like a stock cart or hit the gas and it really takes off in comparison. We took the governor out of the block. Used clutch adapter from CPP and cut crank off to get clutch close enough to block.
CC looks easier to do, at least this carryall he has now. The clutches look smaller than the yamaha though not sure what is with them. In this CC the clone would sit the same way as the kawasaki in the yami the cylinder is on back side opposite of stock. This CC turns the right way think its a 93. It has WAY more room in there. |

Re: considering a 16 hp 4 stroke engine swap
I'm more familiar with yamaha, if you get a newer one (G14?) you can get a posi kit for it. Lot of people use ezgo rears you can get cradles and everything for those (4 stroke rears). I'm not sure about CC some do run backwards don't get that one. I don't like the look of the clutches on them but don't know much about them they just look small in comparison. Some also use a 1" belt, all the yamaha are 1 3/16 belts the standard for sleds and most things. It may depend what you can find in your area, I think that is how most people end up with a particular brand cart lol.

Re: considering a 16 hp 4 stroke engine swap
If you want the engine to face forward, a 96 and earlier CC rear end will have the correct rotation and has forward and reverse. This is the way I'm going with project GEM. A Yamaha rear end will work also but the engine will need to be facing to the rear. I figured that cooling the motor might be an issue with this set up and also maintenance is a little more difficult but either way will work.
