Default Duramax in Cushman

I finally started the project. I have never been able to find what this Cushman model is called. Not sure what motor was originally in it but there was a 295 Robins engine with it.
So far all I have done is removed the clutch off the robin motor and install it on the 16 HP duramax. Had to cut the crank and use the adapter. Clutch was rusted shut took it apart and cleaned everything. Clutch closes when engine is running opens when engine stops. Did not have wiring diagram for duramax motor and control box ( start switch) took a while to figure out. Also found out engine will not shut off unless control box is actually bolted to engine. It grounds out ignition through the metal box. Next comes mounting engine, just have to figure out how much slack should be in drive belt.??

Post up some pics!!

I would say you want about 2 inches of deflection in one leg of the belt. Should get you close.

Tried a belt for a 94-2008 EZ Go, it was about 6 inches too long, so i checked the dayco chart and ordered one for a 73-81 Harley Davidson cart which shows about 36 3/4" long. the EZgo was about 42" long.
Belts are always hard when you don't have one to measure with. I have 2+" of movement on the motor for mounting to adjust the tension of the belt.

Cushman/Ransoms is owned by Jacobson now, might be able to get parts there. That looks like an EZGO engine/clutch but I'm not sure. That is not one of the old trucksters they had 3spd trans in them no CVT. Jacobson did have a metal body cart for stuff that could have been an ezgo, but newer ezgo don't use the engine sideways either only the really old 2 stroke with no reverse. Most of the trucksters you could haul anything that would fit in the back, even fill it with solid cement blocks was no problem. They were serious tanks and didn't break much at all.

All the lawn engines with a magneto ignition, which would be a coil on the flywheel not requiring power, are stopped by grounding the little coil wire. Some engines power the ignition and use a remote coil like old kohlers, stock yamaha G2/9 carts (some never ones don't), etc. They have points or a CDI type thing to run the coil. New honda and B&S are using a transistor mag, it can change the timing a little it delays the spark at lower rpm but far as I know not like a CDI can.

Yep this is the one everyone seems to call the Idustrial. They cam in Gas and Electric. the gas was a 8-10 horsepower engine and the electric was a 36 or 48 volt setup. I think all the other cushmans use the 18-22 HP engines with a transmission and a clutch and drive shaft. Found a few others online now and they do come with the CVT set up. the load capacity on this one is limited to 1200 lbs. One thing I thought was interesting is it has rack and pinion steering. I used a clutch off of a 295 robins from an Ez-go. I had it sitting around. used a clutch adapter to mount to the duramax.

The old trucksters had this strange opposed twin engine. Some converted them to onan 20s. They did have a lot of torque. This one must be a newer model than the trucksters. I worked at a place that sold them before jacobsen bought them out and never saw one of those, they did have a larger truckster with a 3cyl liquid cooled and huge rear tires but was same body.

"Had to cut the crank and use the adapter"
What is the adapter and what is it used for?

The aftermarket engine I used came with a 1" straight crankshaft where the clutch attaches. all the stock clutches for golf carts are Tappered. Thre is an adapter you can buy from CPP that slips on a 1" straight crank that allows you to use a tappered clutch. Usually you need to trim the length of the crankshaft to properly align the drive clutch section with the driven clutch section (belt alignment).

The trucksters are really cool. This however is the oddball of the Cushmans and most of these seemed to be electric not gas. The drivetrain has more in comon with the Cushman Minibikes than the Cushman Trucksters.
