Question Best Clone

Can anyone tell me, from experience, which clone is the best? The 15 hp Lifan or the 16Hp Duromax.Which is better from a reliabilty standpoint ?
Also, what involved in wiring my 98 CC S.G. which is clockwise , to run CCW?
Thanks

I'm getting ready to do an engine swap in a 98 CC.
I just ordered the Lifan from home depot and the clutch adapter.
I should be ready to start to assemble next weekend.I'm going to be running a
C.W. rear end ,and it appears to be 8 1/2 to 1 in reverse v/s 6 to 1 in forward.
I hope I can make up the difference with taller tires and a few more rpms out of the engine. Does anyone know why CC switched from ccw to cw.
It kinda sucks.

I thought Lifan made the duromax? I know the carolstream I got is a lifan. Lifan is the largest maker of small engines in the world now, they are making cars in China they are so big. They are not perfect but quality seems to be pretty good now. I would recommend you put some hours on it before you beat on it, for sure don't run constant high rpm at first. Not sure they were Lifans but some stuck rods without a good break in but not heard of any lately. I know the one I did we ran most of the summer and then I could feel it loosened up. I don't know how many hours as it was used for a lot of short trips, didn't want to go trail riding until it was sorted out. I took the governor out of the block before we installed it, so we were careful and didn't do much top speed running. Normally only do short bursts anyway.

It does not like to rev hard even with a car muffler and airbox, so next one if I can ever get to it will advance the timing and cut the head, maybe some other things trying to get a little more from it.

i have the same issues with my '97 club car. i doubt that you will be very happy running in reverse.......even with taller tires, or highr gears. if you do go this route i think that you also have to swap the springs and puck around in your clutches. again i doubt that you will be happy in the end. my solution is to spin the motor around and use a jackshaft.

take a look at this before you start:

Did you get going on this swap?

I'm thinking tax return I'll get a home depot clone and get going on my cart, but will have to wait for better weather before I actually start lol. However, I'm going to try to mod the engine some with cut head and timing advance, etc.

It looks the same as the HF engine. They said they updated the HF engines but they don't look much different other than the square gas tank. They updated the price but now it has fallen back. Either way both have the above aircleaner I need.

I'm starting to look into a clone replacement for my 89CC.

Looks like the Lifan engines at Home Depot have been discontinued and are out of stock.

The cheapest Duromax I've found so far is $270 with re shipping from generator factory outlet.

Hey, one question for these clones... Where do you get parts when needed? Are they able to use the Honda equivalent parts?

I must have got my HD clone just in time. They did the same thing last year btw. Most honda parts fit, some places sell parts and ebay always has stuff listed. The first clone I did was a carolstream but I didn't want that airbox for a G9 again, but it ran fine. It is also a lifan.

Maxtool is same price, has that little airbox though the one above the carb is better and has a real filter not foam....plus you can clamp a hose right on it and go remote.

Thumbs up Re: Best Clone

Homedepot does have the Lifan motors they are more money I guess since they are 2012 compliant. This is the recoil Lifan.

The electric start.

I wonder why the Lifan motors are rated at 15hp and max torque 18.5 ft/lb, and the Duromax are rated 16hp and 21ft/lb? I have read the Lifan from homedepot is easier to hook up the throttle linkage?
