Duromax is about as simple as engines get. Cheap as well.

Cheaper still if you opt out of the starter and use your old S/G.

Is that the 2 stroke EZGO? If so you will not have any reverse. What some do is buy the trans and cradle out of a newer one to get the reverse. Some make the cradle they are simple, some get the shocks and springs/etc too.

Depends on how much work you want to do. There is not much you can do with the stock engine, other than make it run well. The 420 clone has quite a bit more power than stock you can spin 22s with it. So you might be at the point where you fit that cart up and find a newer 4 stroke to mod, or you just go ahead with that one, or you just fix it up and run it as is. Unfortunately the lack of reverse is a problem with them, unless you don't care about that. The sideways drive is a pain too but can be used. The yamaha G1 has a normal layout but also runs backwards for reverse, however you can get a bravo sled engine and make it work in those because the ignition pickup can be modded to fit the block. I've never seen a larger 2 stroke put in an old ezgo....yet.

Well I have decided to rebuild the factory 2 stroke, just cheaper and easier for now, I have an old electric club car with an aluminum frame I can go crazy with, Thinking about a home made hummer body on it with 4 wheel drive, I have a 4x4 quad that I junked out but kept the axles and shafts and front end stuff, thanks for all the input on this post!

I had replaced a 2 cycle engine with a 22 HP Kohler, old cart from Fl. and x-member eventually got cancer, Found a '94 with locked up 4 cycle and installed the Kohler, required different mount set up than the older one but much better with a reverse. Using Snapper bucket type seats and had to elevate passenger side for clearance. Runs about 35 mph.

Hey fellow 88 owner! That's the hotrod year, with pretty decent performance. Easy to fix, and mod. Update pics are always enjoyed :)
