Default Best carb ?

Does anyone have a recommendation as to what would be the best size of carburettor to use on a Duromax 16hp motor ? I see Mikuni carbs all over ebay but I'm unsure as to best one to buy. The oem carb looks like it was made by a freshman in shop class armed with a hacksaw, a hammer and some nails.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and experienced wisdom.

The clone 420 carb spacer opening is about 28mm, I was looking for a 28mm carb. It depends on what carb, you take the newer slide carbs and they are supposed to flow more for the same size. Anyway, I don't really need more flow/rpm I need torque so I was looking for a 28-30 that I assume flows more anyway. If you go too big it hurts the low rpm power.

You can look at other lawn engines they mod and what they use.

I'm not looking for outright power Sho, just something more tuneable and reliable than the EPA mandated POS supplied with standard engine. The plastic levers and linkages appear to have the design work of a troupe of Chimpanzees being fed methamphetamine. Horrible. I have had a couple of cart conversions where those choke levers have snapped off and one where the choke flap was sucked into the engine and spat out jamming the exhaust valve. Used or new Mikunis are dirt cheap and I just wondered what the best size would be. I had figured on a size per displacement ratio, ie; a 450cc motorcycle carb would be a match for a 450cc clone. You reckon 28mm will cut it ? I was thinking a 36 or 38mm may be more adaptable but like I said in the og post, I'm open to suggestions from those that have trodden this path already.

I would go more by HP than cc, for example a small dirt bike 100-125cc might run 7K rpm and have the same HP and size carb as this 420cc lawn engine. (just guessing). If this is the case you might be able to use iirc 24mm they use on C6 put in all those off road gokarts and I think used on Briggs animal? The briggs formula uses a PZ26) The walbro PZ carb I think they have a 24 I know they have a 22. Anyway it is common and might be cheap. Sure the MC carbs mikuni/etc would be good too. Too large a carb will hurt TQ. I found info and size on the stock 420/GX390 carb someplace but don't know where, I wrote it down but not seeing it here.

For example here http://www.nr-racing.com/390hopupkits.htm they sell 32/34 carbs for performance use on engines with cams in them, so you know they are much too large for a stock engine. With a cam you are at 20hp and up to 30hp with a fully built clone 390....twice the HP. So I would not go above 28 stock and 24 might work I would have to research it more. They say those 'real' carbs flow more than the lawn carbs, but I don't know the difference. Note on the NR site they infer a 32/34 flows more than the stock carb bored out. Mostly the cam raises the RPM of the powerband, more rpm means more air pumped.

Thanks for the information and the link Sho. It makes sense I suppose to use a carb matched to horsepower as opposed to CC.

I need to get a carb too. Lawn carb has a idle and main, other carbs have a lot better circuits. Where I run there is houses and you have to go 10mph around that spot and stock carb will bog if you hammer it and go rich at steady speed. There is no tuning off idle with the thing. I put a different idle needle in it so I could adjust it.
