Default EZ Go swap

Thanks everyone here for their tips and tricks. I spent some time reading here before doing my own swap, and it was nice to have an idea what a guy might run into. I used the Carrol Stream 16 HP. Made a clutch adapter using the end of the Robin crankshaft. Cut it of flush with the last crank throw and bored it to 1" to fit the clone shaft. There would have probably been room for a key, but I drilled and tapped for set screws in the key slot. It's holding up so far. Cut 3/4" off the clone shaft. I used the cart generator/starter and left the factory mounts. Stock air cleaner so far, I'll change that when I get more time. I left the stock muffler on it, just added a piece to it so I could turn it and move it back to clear the bed. I took the micro switch off the reverse buzzer and moved it to use as a kill switch, so it starts and shuts off with the pedal. Also wired a ground through a toggle switch in case the throttle sticks you can shut it off. Drilled and tapped the intake spacer to run the stock fuel pump.

Again, thanks for all the info here. It made the swap much easier.

Bill

Don't forge the photos! lol.

What I did on a G9 yamaha is bought a waterproof relay and the plug for it on amazon, it was <$10 or something for both I bought a few for other projects. A bosche type relay common to autos. Anyway just hook it up to kill the clone ignition when off (ground it). Then power up the relay off the pedal or gen solenoid, whatever is 12v only when it runs. In this case the yamaha ignition is 12v, so I just used the wire that went to the stock ignition coil. This way it gets killed if the pedal is not down, its working great. If you unplug the relay you could start it with the recoil. Also left the key on the engine similar to the way they come, so if I unplug the relay it works with the key even electric start. The next one I'm not getting elec start, but this cart we thought the engine might end up in something else at some point or we might convert it later.

If your cart has a magneto coil that is not powered, you should be able to use the stock kill wire on the new clone.

Hi Sho,

I think that's a good way to get it done. I started out to do it that way. I thought I had some relays at the shop, but all I had were 24 and 120 volt coil relays. My son was on me to get the cart going so I just stole the back up beeper switch. The beeper horn hadn't worked in a few years anyway.

I'll try and get some pictures up.

Thanks hookm, and sho.

You did better than me, at first I just turned the idle down to nothing so it would quit. Of course if you had a throttle stick or something.....that would have been bad. Maybe my new clone will show up this week, I have to start gathering parts for the install.

Throttle sticking wouldn't be good. My kids drive ours most of the time, so I added a toggle to kill the motor also.

Have fun with your build. My 8 year old son helped me, and we sure enjoyed it. What he lacks in patience is made up with enthusiasm.

I have a family member that loves that stuff, it was his cart I did first now mine. He helped a lot but I've studied it much more than him, have some more ideas for this go around. I will mod his if the stuff works better on mine. I even bought some parts to try on the stock yami clutch and see if it helps performance, nobody can get those to work like an aftermarket. Of course everyone else loves to ride the race buggy they call it, I just have the slow cart now lol....but not for long.
