Default clockwise clone swap w/jackshaft

here's my clone swap going into my '97 club car. i had a friend make a 1 inch keyed jackshaft tapped for my stock clutch. the clone sits above the jackhaft 'backwards' in the stock engine craddle.

Just drop some pillow blocks in there, very cool install thanks for posting. How does it run? I did a clone in a yamaha the 420cc and it rules compared to stock. It feels like twice the power it will spin 22s and tear up hills until it spins. Some of the CC you have to do some work in the clutches to make them work better, but I'm not versed on exactly what. CPP mods them. I have family with a carryall they might clone not sure yet.

i still have some minor things to do before it lives again. next: fab exhaust....planning on using an agk exaust flange and my sons honda 400ex exhaust, fab up throttle linkage, and have sprockets welded for jackshaft set up. motor runs pretty good considering the fact that it sat on my work bench for 2 years.

I just welded up some sprockets like that matter of fact, had a fun project rebuilding a rear tiller for an old cub cadet. Wow does that thing till now, and smooth as butter. Had to make some new shafts with sprockets the old ones were pressed and brazed best I could tell, and shot. There was not room for collars, had a guy turn the sprockets for a slip fit and tacked them on, welded them. It does not run that fast anyway, has two reduction chains inside it with a 50 and 60 chain. I'm still not sure how we got the bearings off it, but my torch tanks know. Now I wonder if a clone would work in place of the old kohler 12hp in it, though it runs pretty good yet.

You just wait they have a pile of power compared to stock, makes it a lot more fun to tool around in. I just though it funny because I used to build industrial machines with pillow blocks and flange bearings, shafts, they looked very familiar. It should work great.

sho305,

thanks for the encouraging word. this has been a long time coming. where does all the time go? i think that it has almost been 3 years since my teen son and his friend blew the stock motor up. about 2 years since i bought the clone, and a lot of time thinking about how i wanted to put this mess back together. I don't really have much fabrication, or mechanical experience outside of my trade as a union electrician, but i have learned a lot from reading other peoples posts here. the cart is going to live again!

tiller project sounds cool. i have a cub tiller for my old school cub 149. it rules the garden. what used to take 2-3 hours to till now takes about an hour including R&R of the tiller. huge back saver in 50'x200' garden. i also have a brinly single plow which is great for getting the garden ready for winter.

Ha, same boat here was going to clone the cart last year and could not get to it. Engine is getting weak in it and loses power when it gets hot, it is original. My clone will be here this week I'll get the head cut and stuff, if weather gets nice I might get to work on it in April not sure.

That tiller on a real garden tractor just rules. I don't know size would guess my garden is about half that long, but takes forever with a little tiller (that also needs a bearing). I could make it larger but last summer about 10% was not planted, takes work to care for it also. Last year I also scored an old troybuilt 5hp I think it is. Hard to turn but so easy to till with in the rows. Need to order an air filter for it finally found the right one.

my wife hasn't been a 'true believer' in the golf cart clone swap. several times she has remarked that she would like to sell my 'pile of parts' for whatever she can get. thinking about locking her out of the garage. it has been really slow. next cart will be pre '96, or ez go. the clockwise problem added a whole bunch of extra hassle to this build. being able to drop a motor in with out the clockwise problem would have been much easier and more room. when i let the sales guy talk me into spending more $$$ purchasing the used '97 this isn't what i had in mind.

I like the yamaha but not much room in the engine area, the clone fills it right up. They are nice carts, would not mind an Ezgo I think just was none to buy here. The CC always have an issue like this rotation or alum frame my MIG does not work on or that front suspension, etc. They are nice carts stock but hardest to mod the way I see it. This carryall family has needs a clone, then to lift it you have to buy a spindle kit I'd rather build my own lift but they make it so much more complex. Then they have this little 1" belt I don't understand. Not sure what will happen because he bought a utv anyway.

The clone turns a yami into a much nicer toy, its got some power finally. Not a 20hp but huge difference it can get out of its own way now. And guess what showed up at my door today, my new 420 clone No dents or broken stuff it all looks good. Maybe tonight I will tear it down get that goofy gas tank off and all that. Need to pull the head and take out the governor, pull the flywheel to advance it, etc.

At least you will have a newer model cart far as the rest of the cart, this really didn't cost you that much more but yes more hassle. Don't worry, your wife will become a believer the first time it blows her hair back if she likes carts at all. They laughed at us doing the first clone now they complain when its not sitting there to take for a spin lol.

I got this one from Home Depot online it was only 250+tax and free shipping. I think the 15hp and 16hp are the same thing, but I don't know for sure. It is a Lifan the largest maker of small engines in the world now, the carolstream I put in was also a lifan. This is a recoil start since I'll use the stock generator.

Strange thing is I started pulling it apart and found the flywheel magnet is screwed on with a plate and epoxied. The whole deal with these is they say don't run them 6K because the magnet flies off its only epoxied....but this has a screw in it too. I only need to hit 6K or so, whatever a v-twin runs with a rev kit was my goal. The cam has to be a torque cam I need power at 2500-5K about for 98% of my use. I hardly ride roads and that is only place I would wind it out, to get to another trail, and not that far. But magnet or not cast flywheels are only good for so much rpm.
