Default what muffler for the clone?

parts are supposed to be in tommorrow. cart should be running by monday. the only thing left is to figure out what muffler to put on the cart. i see that some have put small car mufflers on their carts. i'm wondering how they sound with the clone gx390 motor. does anyone have a video of their clone muffler setup running? i'd really like to here what you've got.

My BB is louder than necessary with a Thrush muffler on it......kinda makes it hard to sneak around. 720cc V twin.
My little 13hp single got the stock CC muffler back on it ....It sounded like a golf cart and ran okay.

i don't want something really loud, but i'm also not worried about sneaking around. something mild would be nice. maybe something equal to the way my 3 chamber flowmaster muffler sounds on my truck. not loud and obnoxious, but low and powerful.

I don't think they make a 3 chamber flowmaster muffler for the clone ....

i'm guessing that you are probably right this time. the one on my truck is pretty large with 3" pipe. something that big on the cart would probably sound like a popcorn popper with the 16 hp clone motor. i was thinking something much smaller would be better. i'm planning on using 1 1/4'' tubing.

This is a smaller car muffler, a generic oval 'turbo' muffler. It might be leaking a little we put a piece of flex on it for flex to the rubber mounts and it was a hair to large it wrinkled under the clamp. It has a real deep tone at idle, sounds more like this when you gas it. It seems louder at idle actually. It also has no tailpipe it would be better with one I am sure. It sounds a little better in person it has some thump to it.

There is a longer thread here about mufflers that lists different ones, though many of us were looking for quiet ones. I think the coolest one is the TheNewGuy put on his G9 its a VW muffler with chrome pipes, it looks and sounds cool, he posted video and photos. Another guy just posted he use one from a rice rocket that is adjustable and likes it. You can get those as takeoffs when people buy aftermarket, it looks really cool too like a double triangle.

Does anybody sell an exhaust flange that will bolt to a 13 HP clone engine? I can make one if I have to but I'm also willing to buy one. I'd like to do a custom exhaust pipe and muffler setup. The existing clone muffler is in the way.

I think NR Racing also has one, an entire kit with bent pipes and all you put together and cut to size. I have to get something I'm considering a header then I can cut it by the flange and aim it where I want.

The kit is 75 "make your own" http://www.nr-racing.com/exhaust.htm

Problem is you buy the 75 kit + shipping then find a muffler too that makes for an expensive exhaust. I winder if I can add electrical conduit to a header and get to the muffler. Still a header is ~$50 ouch. I'm still looking. I can also build a flange just takes a little drill press time.

AGK has some bent pipes and the flange, I don't know if anyone else has them. The clone I did I enlarged the holes on the stock G9 and it fit.
