aircleaner adpter
i just got another box of parts in for the clone project. the billet aircleaner adapter from affordablegokarts.com is really nicely done but my intake studs are to short to bolt it on. further down this troubled path: the intake manifold studs are stepped so that they center the carburator. not sure a longer bolt will work here.
just wondering what others have done with this. |

Re: aircleaner adpter
i had the same problem i ground the area out around the bolt holes was just barely enough thread on the left one then left out the thick gasket and coated the bak side with rtv sealant ...then got a pvc rubber i think it was an 11/2 inch coupler to a piece of pvc pipe then to my stock cc air box tube it was quite a bit of work filing and grinding out the billet but it worked ....the studs appear to be pressed in so i didnt want to mess with them ..hope this helps

Studs are shorter on some engines. When we run into this problem with the engines we build we have two options. The studs can be replaced with long bolts. It takes a pretty descent hardware store to find bolts that size and length. Or we use a piece of all thread and cut it down to the size needed. apparently some clones have 1/4 20 thread studs, and allthread would be very handy. mine doesn't. |

Re: aircleaner adpter
new aircleaner adapter has been adapted. what should have been a 5 minute install required extra hardware, and some modification. i shortened the intake studs so that i could use a metric rod coupler, redrilled the air cleaner adapter so that the rod couplers would slide inside, and used 2 short metric tap screws to secure the adapter to the carb. way more work than i would have expected for a custom billet air cleaner adapter that was supposed to 'bolt right on'. the pulse pump fitting was a piece of cake by comparrison.

from what i understand it's those darned chinese that copied the honda motor , and then slapped several different types of studs or what ever was left over after ripping off the last big one. now that i'm done ranting, i feel better. there is something to be said for a 'deal'. anyway....the beast is on, and it should work well. right now i'm waiting on my neighbor to do some welding for me. and some gas line that i forgot to get while i was out. |
