Default Is the Duromax rev limiter guaranteed to break......

.......if you don't remove it completely? I'm getting back into my project now & have finally got my engine mounted.........but noticed through some reading that it seems almost standard rather than optional to remove it from inside instead of just tying it off. I'd hate to reverse my steps & pull the engine after fighting to get it in, but if it's just a matter of time before it breaks off inside the engine I'll do it.

Thoughts?

I don't know, and likely it depends on how high rpm you run it. Eventually it can fly apart inside the engine at high rpm and cause....death of the engine. It would be ok for a while I imagine. The clone will only run 5000-5500 or so rpm anyway, unless you do some mods to it. Its not hard to get out you take the side case off and (I like to stand the engine on the flywheel side on something padded, so everything stays in there) take the arm assembly off the top of block, get the washers too don't let anything get into the engine. I put grease on a drill and drill and tap 1/8 pipe thread to put a plug or pipe into it you can close off. Stuff a rag inside the block to catch anything that comes off the drill/etc. Then you can break the flyweight gear its plastic, cut off what you can, or press the shaft out of the cover and remove it then press the shaft back in. I removed one, this engine I just broke it and cut off nearly everything with side cutters (wire cutters). Put the cover back on should use some removable locktite on the bolts. Its nice to do it when new as there is no oil in there and you can reuse the new-ish gasket.

BTW a rev limit is in the ignition and cuts spark at X rpm. In cars with an ECU the computer often cuts fuel injection pulses instead. A governor controls/limits the throttle via speed of the vehicle or speed of the engine rpm, it does not affect the ignition or fuel flow.

Thanks sho...........that's the 2nd time you've had to correct me on the rev limiter thing, lol. Like I said, I've already got the engine in & don't want to pull it if I don't have to. This will be used almost exclusively as a golf course vehicle so I won't have extended runs of high rpm's plus it's lifted with 22in tires so that should keep it from revving to its max.
I'm at the point of finishing this thing so I wanted to be sure I'm OK to move forward.

If you are anything like me at golf Syd, you won't be driving more than 250 yards between shots so I doubt you'll get to anything near maximum rpms.

My cart gets max rpm every day I run it, with 22s. The clone (family cart) runs about the same speed have to test it this summer. My stock G9 will run 30gps on pavement and 28 on dirt drives. The clone runs very close to the same max rpm, but it gets there way quicker. The power dies right off at high rpm, it gets up to ~25mph really quick then backs off. That is all stock except the airbox and exhaust are high flow, the clone for my cart will not be but will have stock cam/block parts. It will have cut head, ported, timing advance, valve springs, most mild mods I can think of lol.

Since I'm not going to pull the gov I think I'll lock it down in high rpm position then. That should keep tension off it & help avoid breakage.

Syd, how did you make out tying th governor off? What would you think of letting it work agains a spring instead of the throttle linkage spring?
