I have seen many different connections "broke" most use the governor arm with a return spring and a secondary connection to the carb. Nothing wrong with that except the supplied carb which in (IMHO) is garbage. Bits snap off, no choke return etc. I'm experimenting with a 30mm Mikuni and initial results are encouraging. I have a slight delay from idle to WOT but other than that it's working great. Provided I don't bury the pedal from a start it is a very nice little addition. Very smooth transition from a steady idle @ around 950 to a "guestimated" 4500 rpms provided you let it build steadily. I'm currently running a K&N Filter and the plug is indicating a lean mixture. Slightly light tan but I reckon I can get it get right with a little tuning. Carb cost me $30 shipped brand new.

yeah that price was right I got it all put together test drove not pulling throttle at good enough angle back to drawing board. while driving reached down and throttled by hand on the carb and the motor seems to run good

I cut my electrical box in half. Not using anything inside except the throttle pivot. Was then small enough not to interfere with the engine. Even cut down the lid and JB welded bits and pieces together to make it look decent and slightly water resistant! LOL Look in my thread....there may be pictures.

I'm at that point of trying to mod a throttle too. I moved the box to the passenger side & have retro'd the linkage..........just trying to figure out how to make this work as the carb throttle only moves about 1 inch from shut to wide open. Thinking about a heavy spring on the back side (gov not being used) & a lighter one on the cable.

Syd, that was one of my main issues. The carb was either shut or WO with virtually nothing between. I was gnashing my teeth untill I hit on this little Mikuni. Progressive choke (not like like that nasty bloody supplied thing that snapped off) and a genuine slide operation and spring controlled throttle body. Easy hook up but does require some manifold modifications. I routed mine out a little longer than standard, old school perhaps but a little extra torque is appreciated. As best I can tell from the advertizing of the 16HP clone it conforms to CA EPA standards. Which is to say; It breathes like an Asthmatic Octogenarian. I'm sorry if that offends your senses, but that's the truth imho.

put black box and throttle linkage on pass. side drilled hole in back of black box ran cable to adapter i built on govenor added return spring can not for the life of me get it adjusted properly either full throttle or quarter throttle there has got to be a better way so idle along. please send pics of something that works with out having to change carb.

I haven't had time to work on my project but have been pondering this. I'm going to try to add a small plate or bar to the throttle on the carb. This will extend the throw distance on the throttle giving me more operating room for the throttle cable, i.e. instead of going from closed to wide open in 1 inch, it should give me about 2.5-3 inches of range on the throttle. Just an idea..........I'll see if it works.
