Talking Ezgo txt Clone Build and PICS!!!

Hey guys, ive been studying the clone section for a few months now and have begun my clone install. I purchased a 2001 ezgo txt parts cart last november for my build. The cart didnt have a whole lot left in it when i purchased it. Everything had been taken off exept the engine and exhaust. I sold the engine and bought a lifan from HD for just over $260, i just got the pull start version because i wanted to add a S/G so it would work like a stock cart. I put a 5in allsports lift on and ordered some sahara classics on 10" tempest wheels for it! I'm also doing away with the stock exhaust and was looking into an exhaust off a 250f dirt bike, what are your thoughts on this guys? also what should I use to attach the gas cable to the gov arm? I just got done welding up a engine mount yesterday using 2 1/4"x4"x12" steel plates welded together and cut back to 11", and used 1 1/4" angle iron for the rear cut to 5 1/4" going down and 8" across. I was able to use both stock ezgo engine mounts so I could use the S/G easily. I was able to do this by chopping the gov arm off the transaxle and chopping the shift lock off, so those of you wondering if you can use the stock mounts while stuffing a clone in it can be done!! I am using a comet 780 clutch, I also ordered a 7" belt pulley for the S/G from Grainger. I'm going to herculine the body and will eventually weld up a custom roll cage and rear seat. I'll keep updates coming as i want to get it running this weekend! Ignore the block of wood on the carb. sorry for rambling on..

Great news! I got the motor mounted and everything hooked up, She Runs! The clone is a torque monster compared to a stock cart!

In the past I have used the original exhaust from EZ-GO and Club Car Clone conversions but these are a little restrictive with the clone carb. I have also had problems with the clone carbs themselves. They are hard to tune properly and bits snap off far to easily (choke and throttle levers particularly). For my current build I'm using a 32mm Mikuni carb which is very tuneable and has sturdier controls etc. I recently purchased a muffler from a 250cc 4 stroke scooter which (on the scooter at least) has a nice quiet low tone which will suit my golf course riding. No doubt a 2 stroke muffler could be adapted but you may encounter back pressure issues since strokers need that to scavenge exhaust and to help provide fuel / air flow. Personally I would look for a 4 stroke muffler but that's just my opinion. You may run into carb tuning issues with the supplied clone unit so consider down the line changing to something similar to my Mikuni. They are pretty cheap @ around $30 brand new. Obviously a manifold will be needed to adapt it but there are so many different jets available to tune it I reckon it's well worth the effort.

Thanks faster, I was thinking about switching to a mikuni carb if i have issues with the clone carb in the future. Also the exhaust i am talking about is from a 4 stroke bike, so i think ill go ahead and try it. Im going to find one with a full system so i can cut it down and reweld it to fit. Im going to roll on my bedliner to the body today, so pics to come tonight!

Sorry its been awhile since ive posted anything. I got the bedliner on, wheels and tires, and bottom seat finished. Need to finish the backrest yet. I have also been running the clone around for about a month or so now, this thing Rocks for the $250 i spent on it.. I haven't had much time lately as I am working on a cherokee and 67 beetle, but I am moving onto the rear seat and roll cage as soon as i get a pipe bender. As you can see in the pic i ended up using a muffler from a klx125 dirtbike, it worked out well and a plus is I have a spark arrestor now! Anybody have any ideas for an intake for the clone? the stock one sucks... One more thing I want to point out, I give huge props to Golf Cart King!!! They have awesome prices and ship super fast! tell me what you guys think!
