Question HELP .... club car carryall 2 to slow

I put a 16hp vanguard V twin in my 2000 ( around that year) carryall 2 ...... The motor spins CCW and the stock motor spun CW ...... So I thought I would just put it in reverse and u would be fine ....... It to slow ...... It's slower then when I had the govenor off my stock motor ...... It does like 12 mph going forward ( tranny in reverse ) and 20 - 25 mph in reverse ( the tranny is in forward )...... My main question is if I change the gears will it effrect the reverse gear in the tranny so it will go faster

One option is to turn the engine around 180 degrees and use a jackshaft to get the correct rotation direction. This diagram shows how to do that. The dimensions and proportions are not to scale. It's just a rough sketch. It assumes your drive clutch will work in either direction. It also assumes you have enough space between the engine and transaxle for a jackshaft.

I would look for a junk cart with the ccw rear end or someone selling one from a bike engine swap ,some time you can find them cheap mine with a 16hp twin is doing 30-35 with tons of torq.

It can be a long wait finding a good used transaxle with reverse. Took me over a year and if I'd been 2 minutes slower calling the guy I wouldn't have got it.

Go kart places have that stuff cheap from what I have seen, there are threads here on it with photos. You need two sealed pillow block bearings to mount the shaft, then chain and sprockets, that is about it just your CVT you already have from the shaft to the trans. So you have to mount the primary on the shaft. You can get the bearings from a bearing place local, or grainger or mcmasters. The best ones to use for higher rpm are the eccentric lock ones and self aligning. The locking ones have a collar with an eccentric you turn w/ hammer and punch tight then tighten the set screw. They don't come loose. Normal ones have a collar that just has a set screw or two. Self aligning means the bearing will rotate in the pillow or flange and line up to your shaft if its off a little. There are also farm type bearings that will work, sometimes they are really cheap on ebay. Most farm stuff is higher speed and for dirty areas, a lot of them are flange mount so your mount would be different.

You can also try to mount the clutch to the flywheel side of the engine, though I would be careful of doing that if you run with no governor on the engine and get high rpm. It could eventually be hard on the crank bearing. However some lawn equipment runs that way year after year at full rpm 3600. You may have to get a machine shop to make a hub that mounts on the flywheel and then a stub shaft to fit the clutch. Try to keep it short.

I think 1993 and earlier (?) CC turn the right way. I have a 93 CC CA2 here that turns the normal way a clone would fit right into it. Not found a good price on it or I thought of buying it, but it would be harder to lift with that front they use.

Pre 96 1/2 CC transaxles are CCW rotation then they went CW. Your ratio is incorrect on the later model year axle. Either switch out the axle or make your engine breathe better and rev harder to compensate. Easy to do if you don't mind pushing the engine beyond it's factory set limitations.

Used to be around $105 for a vanny rev kit and you can pull about 6K rpm with it, but I am guessing if you put that in a calculator its still not that fast and you are screaming the engine to do it. Some have put like 28s on to gear it up but you need a major lift for that.

Screaming the engine to run the speed you want will work but I'd want a less edgy solution, like swapping the rear or adding a jackshaft. Plus it's just odd to be able to back up faster than you can go forward. I suppose you could enter cart races and drive in reverse just for the novelty though. Two Bud Lites and I'd do it.

i had the same issue with my '97 club car. i had a one inch jackshaft made, and mounted it on some pillow blocks that i bought off of ebay. i had the shaft keyed the same as my clone motor and bought some sprockets and chain from tractor supply. there are pictures of my build in most of my posts under 'clone swaps'. top speed is as yet unkown because i've been busy doing other things. but my cart is about 90% done.
