Default Transaxle Transmission Idea?

So I have pretty much done nothing to my cart in a while and tonight I was browsing surpluscenter.com and they have lawn mower peerless trans axles. Some For reasonable prices as well. I was wondering if the trans axle would operate fine if I mounted the front end down and back of it up? basically in a vertical position, So I link to my engine. I know what most people would say here, its not meant for it. But is there anything to be concerned about? Any Oil Seepage any where?

My cart has the small block 6.5hp clone Honda and a Tav2 set up. I was looking at the CW rotation trans axle and had an idea of mounting it vertical and using one axle for a sprocket to drive my ezgo rear end. This would give me a Multiple Forward Gears, Neutral and a Reverse (something I do not have now).

I have no problem mounting my motor side ways.

Here is the Link

Default Re: Transaxle Transmission Idea?

Years ago I installed one of those off a riding mower into a six wheeler that floats. The gear ratio was too slow for the top speed you would expect on a golf cart. But being the six wheeler was made for my 10 year old I liked the slow top speed.

If you look on craigslist you can normally pick up a running rear engine riding lawn mower for around 200 bucks with a 16 hp engine. (Sometimes even in the Craigslist free section.) If you can weld and fab you could cut off the front end of the riding mower and bolt the hold thing to the golf cart swing arm. The rear axle would be narrower than the front axle and you would be limited to using riding mower wheels. However if you can figure out how to do this and it works you will having bragging rights that you build your own ride with a little money and some of your time. 6 HP seems on the small side for a golf cart so having lower gears would be helpful. Most likely you will not be able to turn your motor side ways if it was not designed that way without burning up the engine.

Did you see that forward reverse gearbox i posted on your build tread?

it mounts to your TAV and acts a jack shaft,....has f-n-r

I don't think a trans axle like that will work.

Yeah, I seen it. I would have to get another driven clutch then because it has a 3/4 input and my driven is 5/8". The transaxle has a vertical input shaft but if you rotate it down then it would have a horizontal shaft and its 5/8's input. I removed the 23t sprocket and going back with the 10. The cart is too unstable at those speeds. but if i did this i would prob have to weld the rear end up since i will be using a sprocket on one of the axles.
