Predator clone 420 flooding, fuel problem
How ya doing fellas. New to the forum here, been reviews threads for awhile now but still cant find a direct answer yet.
I just got done installing the predator 420 in my cart. I'm having problems with the carb flooding, or so i think. Heres my set up. I have a remote tank up front. Fuel line runs back to a Walbro pulse pump. Fuel out from pump runs to carb. I have a barb fitting installing in valve cover of engine for pulse. It is located on the right side below where the original vent line to the air cleaner is. I have an open air filter element on the carb now to help with air flow. So, right now, the original valve cover vent tube is venting to the atmosphere. When i start the engine, it will not run. If i hold my finger over the original valve cover vent line, the engine will seem to run rough and seems to be flooding only with choke on. If the choke is off, it wont run at all. I installed the original gravity fed tank to make sure it still runs correct and it does. I've tried installing a T between pump and carb fuel side and run some fuel back to tank with no difference. I've also tried to add T into pulse line for pump with no difference. So heres my questions..... When you guys install aftermarket air filters, if you do, where or what do you do with the original valve cover vent tube that used to run into the intake box? Also, i know there some ways that ive tried that have worked for other people using a pulse pump, but for some reason it wont work for me. So, should i install some type of regulator into a T to route fuel back to tank? Any new float/needle designs to use with pulse pumps? I've heard of maybe using a magic can?? Where you run basically fuel to a reservoir thats over carb level to gravity feed the carb, then run excess fuel back to tank? Any help is appreciated and thanks again. |

Re: Predator clone 420 flooding, fuel problem
Welcome rustyfritz to BGW forum.
your fuel pump problem might be where you installed the barb fitting. It needs to be located outside of baffle area in the ohv cover. Below i have provided a link on the barb installation. Your walbro pump should work fine, make sure you have the ports connect proper. Regarding the tube that was removed from your stock airbox, i placed a barbed filter on the end of tube to collect oil fumes, but allow it to exhaust in air. They have these at AGP. Hope this is some help. http://www.affordablegokarts.com/fuel-pump-setup.php |

Re: Predator clone 420 flooding, fuel problem
In my profile look at my clone build and in picture 19 you will see what i did for an air cleaner. This way i was able to keep the stock vent tube back into the carb. Did you drill all the way through the valve cove and not just into the outer part of it? It will not work if you didnt.

From what i read, i was suppose to drill completely through the valve cover. Meaning both inner and outer flanges, which i did.

Re: Predator clone 420 flooding, fuel problem
The tube burns fumes from the crankcase, it can go behind the filter so you would get dirt into the carb if you left it open on some engines. It may lean out the jetting, in that case it will run better with the choke part way on. Then you need to richen the jet. They are set very lean, so anything you do will lean it out...with the airbox or exhaust. If you get the carb overflowing try a longer tube on the pump pulse line, that should weaken the pulse some. The carb can only take a really low pressure on the fuel. This problem usually from intake pulse that is strongest at idle, that is why pulse from the valve cover is better. It should be from under the cover, not the top section that is vented to the carb. I don't know how it even works there unless you plug the vent line, then the engine will eventually pressurize itself and that is not a good idea. Some let the vent go into a filter hanging there to vent, it just vents but the little filter catches any oil/etc that comes out. It is better to have it go into carb and does not stink that way, really has little to no affect on power. Cars had pcv in the 60s, it also keeps oil sludge out of the engine.
