16 horse before the cart
Need some help. 1993 ez-go, gas, utility. ez-go 295 worn out. pulled the engine etc. bought a new 16hp clone engine. Now I need someone to direct me in the steps needed to install the engine new in the box I've had for a year. I'm not nearly as confident as when i ordered the engine. whats the first steps and what are some pointers about problems to avoid, and things that are needed to make a smooth running cart. not looking for speed but some good low end. thanks guys.

Re: 16 horse before the cart
I would read what some other people have done and build it the way you want it. I have my clones in Yamaha G9s.

Re: 16 horse before the cart
Its not that hard, look for some threads on ezgo in the big block section and read over them. First are you using a new clutch or stock, stock you need the adapter for. You have to make a mount for the engine or buy one some ezgo you can get whole cradles for. You have to get it the right distance and offset to the secondary clutch, so measure it before you take it out, measure off the fixed sheaves that don't move. That is if you want to use a stock size belt, you can get other sizes if you move the engine forward/back. Then you need to figure out how to hook up the throttle and choke controls, fabricate an exhaust, and and airbox if you do that. The rest is not bad. The clone kills its ignition when it is grounded, your cart might too or some are 12v powered in that case buy a bosch type relay (an outdoor one) from amazon or parts express and the wired plug for it so you can kill it off the cart wiring if you plan to use the pedal switch. Some stock clutches don't work well with a key switch and don't want to change gears at idle. If your stock clutch has a spring in the primary on engine it might be ok. Yamaha don't and drag on the belt so they don't shift well at all at idle (leave the engine running like a utv/lawnmower/etc.).
