Default New guy need input on clone swap

Hello all I would like what I may be getting into if I do the swap, as fair as cost that's number one after that is it a must that I weld anything now from there I'm ok. I have read some post but I'm not clear if I will need to buy a new clutch or reuse the stock clutch? Will I need to add a charging system or not? What about wiring is there a need to make changes with that? Thanks .

My cart is a Yamaha G9 stock with head lights and tail lights and a 6" lift kit other than that the engine is stock, I'm only looking to replace it because its locked up. The new engine just needs to run as it should I'm not looking for anything super fast, we just use the cart as a get about in the campgrounds and around the farm pond. Thanks for any help. P.S HF has the engine I stock here in town as of today would like to get started on the project by the weekend....

The clutch will need an adapter from CPP($50),other than that, you need to build the mount. The charging-system,if equipped is usually only 3-amps(it won't run the lites, and charge the battery),There are threads here on upgrading it,or using the original Starter/Generator.Hope this helps.

www.cartpartsplus.com/

You can keep the gen/starter and it works just like stock, this is the way I did mine. Some people rather get an electric start engine and have it start like a car or lawnmower and idle all the time. Another problem with that is the stock clutches do not like to shift when running, its a pain to start it up every time with a key start. If you do keep the gen you need to use an golf cart clutch or replacement that has the pulley, though some have used other clutches and made a pulley to work with it.

Really the hard part is making the exhaust and airbox stuff, and hooking up the throttle and choke. The mount is easy as measuring the clutches and getting them lined up properly, then finalize your bolt holes. Some do make a new mount, I used the stock ones and just put bars between them. The G9 engine hangs between the mounts they are not connected.

Can I stick with my stock exhaust system? And I'm a union plumber so I think I will be ok with the air box mod. So will I want the center to center of the stock clutches to be the same after I change the motor or how do I set that up?

ive been checking on the clones the one home depo sells lists it as having 19 amps wonder if that would be enough to keep up with everything.

I'm trying to decide between the home depot or the harbor freight engines.....hf has a starter but hd doesn't. I plan on using the stock starter/generator so the electric start doesn't make or break the deal. Just trying to decide which one I want, got a 20% off coupon for hf and a $5 coupon for hd....decisions decisions,
