Default 87 Club Car Clone options for a like stock replacement

Newbie here I have a 87 club car that i am trying to decide what i want to do with it. currently the stock engine is getting close to needing a rebuild due to low compression. The stock clutch is currently shot. in looking at clone engines what all would i need to get up and running in a like stock manner (pedal start). some more power would be fine but there will be kids riding this cart from time to time so although i love the thought of more power i really would need to tame it down a bit for my use. Can i run a stock club car clutch with the clone's? are these engines drop in replacements or would i need to make any modifications to the current cart? thanks for any info as i'm trying to understand all of my options and what the cost would be vs rebuilding the stock engine.

Up to you, the clone will be some work you have to fab mounts and exhaust and maybe airbox depending, and cable hook ups. You can use the gen on them. The 420 is the best deal (or the 440cc), the 390 will work too but not much less than the 420. You can keep the stock cart governor on it to limit speed, you can limit throttle travel to cut power as well. The 390cc will have more power than the stock engine, the 420/440 will have more torque than the 390. That year I think has CCW pto, newer CC rotate backwards and are more hassle. You can use the clutch, or get an adapter to fit it on if its a taper ($50 at CPP). Aftermarket clutches work better for trail riding and yardwork uses, you can tune them some.
