420cc predator 93 marathon
I have a brand new 420cc predator motor. It hasn't been run yet. Is there anything I should do before I start to install it in my cart? Does it need to be broke in? I want to remove the governor, but I don't want to mess it up. Is it difficult to remove?
That's my questions for today, I'm sure I will have more soon. |

It doesnt need to be broken in, I would definately remove the governor and put some HD springs and a timing key in it before you put it in!

Sounds good. Is removing the governor hard? How much for the recommended parts? I'm going to need the clutch adapter I think as well.

Everything is on my website. The HD springs are $10, the timing key is $7.
Removing the governor is very easy. Give me a call and Ill go over it with you. Basically just break the plastic gear into a bunch of pieces, remove it and clean up the mess. There great thing about these engines is they are really easy to get more power out of. Ive got 1.3:1 Rockers and plenty of performance parts in stock. -Geoff |

Right on. I assume it is best to remove the governor before i run the motor anyway. Easy to find the pieces.

I would remove it just so you dont have to open it up twice.
Just take it easy on the ol girl for about 10-20 hours. You will be able to tell when its "broken in". Also, while you have it apart... Check that the cam and balancers are lined up and make sure the rodbolts are torqued. Geoff |

I dont want to sound like an idiot, but valve lash? Im sorry, i dont understand. I can check the tork specs though. I wanted to ask how many pounds to set the bolts at when i close the motor back up. This is the first motor that i will be attempting to modify. Please bare with me. I just want to do it right. Thanks again. I appreciate the help.

Re: 420cc predator 93 marathon
Drain any oil out as they usually test fire them. Then set it with the cover up for a while so the oil goes to the other side. You want to keep the gasket dry. Then take the cover off and remove governor. You need to tap the hole for the arm and put a bolt or plug/setscrew in it (on top of block). All you need is IIRC a 3/8-16 tap? Grease it and use rags to keep metal out of motor. Put it back together and use blue loctite on the bolts so they don't come back out later like mine did...and trash the gasket so I have to pull the engine and replace it. Doh.
