Default Can't shift from forward to reverse

I just finished putting in a Duromaz 16hp engine and put in a new spring in the drive clutch, but Once I get going and stop I can't switch to reverse. I can watch the driven clutch sit there and rock back and forth pretty fast. WHAT DO I DO??!!!

Put the clutch spring in the Primary as suggested in the other thread. the 2 problems are related.

The stock rearend is NOT designed to be shifted while the engine is running, it doesnt have synchronizers and the pedal-start makes it so you dont need them.

Spend the very small amount of money to put some springs in your clutches and you wont have this problem anymore....likewise, you will see a large performance gain to go with it.

Also shift at a slow idle and shift fairly quick. Don't expect to shift into gear if you leave it in neutral running, because then the secondary will start spinning and you have to shut it off to shift. The springs will help a lot, they keep the pressure off the belt at idle. Make sure you have proper belt alignment and offset, clutch center distance. A new belt will be worse they are sticky until they get some wear and dust on them.

Well i finally got the driven clutch apart and it appears someone has been into it before. And when they had put it back together they didn't turn the spring 1/3 turn when they did it, also it was in the 1 hole. So If I Turned the spring 1/3 turn and put it in 3 hole would that solve this? Just trying to save some money besides spending $60.

I think you missed what they guys pointed out in the above. Your Primary, or Your drive clutch will benefit from the aftermarket spring. It is engaging to soon. What you have done, is changed the shift of the secondary, ( I know this as as a graduate of the Sho school of clutches.) What you have done, is programmed the back, or driven clutch to remain in lower gear longer, requiring more power and rpm to get it to shift. From reading, and my own experience, the middle position is a great compromise for most riding styles, if the cheap plastic ramps are in good shape. As far as the primary, invest in a new spring kit, you can try and re-invent the wheel for what others have figured out. It will act like a stall converter in your old car, let it rev up some before it launches. Thats your issue, and it will let you shift with the motor running.

I have already put the new spring in the drive clutch just no the driven. The drive is not engaging early any more. It is just I can't go from forward to reverse, the clutch just rocks back and forth, my guess is because there is so much tension on it. So tightening the spring would help that, or buying a power spring.

did not see you had two posts going, on almost same topic. another thing to look at is shift cables for the transmission. A older ezgo will have two, and a newer unit will have one. Change the cables, $40 from sponsors for a duel unit. Then back off the adjusters. Worked for me.
