420 predator engine
i put a 420 predator in my 94 club car using all stock parts such as starter/generator and my stock club car exhaust. It will run at minimum throtle but when you go wide open it cuts out is it to rich or lean...smells like gas to me but it acts like its not getting enough fuel not sure what to do...oh and i am using the stock club car air cleaner setup as well...other than that issue i was able to put the s/g on just like factory and used the stock club car drive belt as well pretty easy install ill post pics if anyone is interested but please any advice will help on the way it runs. thanks

Re: 420 predator engine
Welcome to BGW!
Just to make sure, did you hook up the pulse fuel pump? If so, are you getting a good pulse to the pump. Most of us usually pull off of the valve cover or the carb spacer. Some even use the port on the block where the governor once was(if they take it out). If all of that is fine, then my next guess would be the carb jetting needs to be played with. These clones come california certified which means they run lean from the factory, so I doubt that it is running rich. You can get a micro drill bit set or torch tip cleaning kit and hone out the pilot jet and main jet. Start with the pilot jet, before you mess with the main jet. I went up one size at a time until my clone would start, idle, and run wide upen like it should. Geoff, Sho, and many other guys on here will most likely chime in before long. Please post pics! We love to follow build threads around here, and I personally would like to see a club car clone swap since I need to do it to my dads Club Car. Last edited by danman; 06-17-2013 at 09:15 PM.. Re: 420 predator engine
Actually I have been just using the fuel tank off of the predator engine cause i wasnt sure how to do the pulse fitting yet. I thought i would run it off of that to see how things were working maybe thats why im not getting enough fuel since its not pumping it in. but it seems to smell rich my clothes stink like gas after messing with it...i can make it run fine in neutral but when on the street under a load is when it cuts out like its out of fuel but when i get it started back up you can tell its flooded...ill post some pics tomorrow evening when i have some daylight left...oh and i am running my throtle cable off of the govener on the engine which seems to be ok, it seems smooth while running.

Using the stock air cleaner and exhaust from the cart, you'll probably have to play with the jets to get it running right. Might want to pull the plug and see if it's running rich or lean, the plug should give you a pretty good reading of how she's running.

Re: 420 predator engine
thanks for the input!! whats the best way to run the pulse fitting and what fitting should i buy? tryin to send pics from my phone but its not loading up so ill have to figure out how to upload them to this site...by the way i had to go up 2 belt sizes for the s/g since the mounts are a little further back on the clone engine when i post the pics you will be able to see its an easy bolt on item...i had to make 1 inch brackets under the engine and drill the holes toward the drivers side just a little bit to get the clutches lined up and the reason i went up an inch is so the carb would line up with the airbox...it works great just cant wait to feel the 15 horsepower over the stock 9...just driving how i have it right now i can feel the difference in torque already...i was told this couldnt be done and it works just fine other than getting the fuel right so far which shouldnt be hard once i figure out the pulse fitting and maybe the jets ill keep you posted on all of this and thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 420 predator engine
You will have to work with what you have, I used a car airbox and muffler so mine was certainly lean. You must have at least 24mm (1") passage through your airbox and close to that for the exhaust or it can heat up and you will not see 15hp. The carb is a 24mm on stock 420cc, at least outside of CA it is. Smaller airbox/muffler may make it rich. One way you can tell is it will run better cold WOT if rich, better WOT with the choke on a little if its lean. You can drill or file the jets out, you can buy jets at cart places or ebay, you can solder them shut to go smaller. Try to get your idle jet screw unplugged or removed so you can adjust it, some are plugged you can drill the plug out. Some are broken off you have to dremel a slot in it and heat it to remove (used a solder gun). It is near the engine on the side, just under the stud.
