Talking Preditor 420 or Honda 390?

Ive been working on a deal for lifted 97 ez-go. The guy has a 13hp honda 390 that I passed on originally. My plan was to get a 440 kit from vegas carts but they aren't in stock right now and I'm trying to get it in before my next camping trip 5 weeks away. So I'm in a little bit of a delima whether to buy a honda preditor knock off with a couple of extra hp or a real honda. They are about the same price hes asking $300 for it. The honda already has a commet clutch on it that was supposed to come with the cart but neither one of us know how to get it off. Any feed back would be great

The 420 seems to have a little more torque, you can modify both. The clone would be new, not knowing how old this 390 is. They are the same except displacement. The honda is said to be a little better quality, so if you try to get 30hp out of it they hold up better.

You need a puller bolt for most clutches to pop them off a taper. If it does not have the gen pulley it may be a 1" keyed clutch they slide off.

Call Geoff about when they will come in, he is on here at times and helpful guy. Those do have parts on them you would want, basically he got that motor to do golf carts. If I build another I would try to get one.

It depends on what clutch you have, there is a puller for each one. Its a bolt that goes down the center of the clutch with a small rod that hits the crank end. There are threads in the clutch for it larger than the bolt holding it on....take bolt out and screw in puller to push it off....is how most stock type taper mount clutches come off. If it has the gen pulley then usually it is taper. Look them up on sites that sell clutches check the photo of them you will see. Unfortunately most are like $40. Some you can make from a bolt, some use grease in there to push out with a normal bolt.

Ill say i have a gx390 in the marathon and it will run pretty dang good with just a highflow filter +exhaust ,rejetted without the transaxle gov on but still has the engine gov on but with me by my self the cart has.seen 30-31mph .compared to 11mph stock .one good thing is.those 440 come with the gov removed and the oil sensor removed which nice if your not a motor head(car guy) .new honda is 800-900$ but they are that expensive For a reason. From what ive read on many karting sites is that if u go billet rod and fly you can pull some serious rpms and is far more reliable. For what vegas is offering best bang 4.buck its really hard to beat his price considering its 18hp unless its a freebie

Well I actually worked a deal on the 13hp 390 for the fact that it already had the clutch installed. I ended up getting it for $200.00, which is still cheaper than buying a new clutch. I plan on upgrading to the 440 clone after they come in, I just have a camping trip Im trying to get this cart together for, and I only have a month to do it.

Can you give me some info on what air filter and exhaust you used? And did you just drill the jet or put a new one in?

Www.nr-racing.com or affordabkegokarts.com for the filter and adapter. Also for the exhaust pipes / flanges. Yes and i just drilled my main jet like suggested theres a long forum some where that has of info on the 390. Which is.basically a 440 using the same parts no point in buying another engine the honda will outlast any clone if the correct mods are done to it
