Default duromax won't cut off

Guys my duromax build has been nothing but problems from the start as you can tell from my several posts so far. First it wouldnt charge, even though its only 3 amps ill take what I can get. Second, its too loud. Still trying to work on that. Now it wont cut off with the switch. It was working fine at first, until I tried to drill a hole in my switchplate for a toggle switch and the drill spun it out of my hands and ripped some of the wires out the switch. I tried soldering the wires back but its not working. It starts fine but wont cut off. Assuming I damaged the switch somehow I bought a new one. Wired it up to the exiting wires. Started it up, ran fine. Turned the key off and the motor keeps running. I know the littleblack wire inside the switch box needs to be grounded and I double checked it to make sure the wire was grounded. I even put my volt meter on the ground bolt at the engine and at the end of the wire wher it connects to the switch and got continuity. Cant figure out why it wont cut off. I have to choke it to kill the motor. Any ideas or suggestions what tolook for? Im ready to set fire to this cart and by something new. Wishing I would have just bought a new robins engine bolted it in and be riding by now.

Don't get wound up about a wire connection, but yeah we all been there before. Make sure the key is not grounding into the housing and the ground is for something else and you don't have a good ground for the key mount/housing....some keys do that some don't.

Should be easy to test the key will show ground to the kill wire when off and nothing to it when on or in start. The key will have a ground wire to use for this or use the metal it is screwed on to. It can use a negative from the battery, because elec start the starter will not work if the block is not ground to battery (unless the starter has a negative cable to batt for itself). Because the kill wire has to ground to the engine block, its not a battery thing.

So you need to find out why you have no ground to the kill wire, either the switch is bad, its hooked up wrong, the wire(s)/connections is bad, the switch has no ground....in no particular order.

Have to say the key and wiring looked a little cheezy when I did the elec start clone I put in. But some Japanese stuff looks that way too so not ever seeing a real GX390 I hoped they did a good copy of Honda and it would work ok. It worked for a year then the starter stuck on one day, I pulled the wire off the solenoid and it stopped. Never used the elec start much always used the gen to start it so never fixed it, whatever was wrong with it. All I did was add a wire to the kill wire up inside near the key switch, left the switch right on the engine.

Nothing changed with my installation from the time it was working to when it wasnt. The switch is mounted in the factory ezgo switch plate. The negative battery cable is grounded directly to the engine. The switch kill wire is grounded at the same spot. Like I said if I put one lead of my volt meter on the ground and the other end on my kill wire at the dash I get continuity. I don't understand why the engine wont cut off.

Test it from engine block to the kill wire close to the engine as you can, key off, you should see continuity. Key on it should not. Never heard of the kill wire not working in the magneto, but guess it is possible.

Im confused. How would I test it that way? My kill wire from the switch goes straight to the ground on the engine. I tested the wire for continuity by cutting the crimp and placing one lead on the ground at the engine and the other end on the wire t confirm I had a good ground wire. How can I test the switch?

Why not ditch the starter box and wire the engine up directly to the carts switch? Its ALOT Cleaner.

My carts switch is a simple on/off. The key switch is like a car switch. I dont know how I would be able to do that. Any suggestions or tips.

Relay or most standard lawnmower switches are setup to send a ground at OFF.

You lost me there. I have the duromax ignition switch that came with the engine mounted in the dash. What do I need to do to get that to kill the engine? The small black wire that was grounded inside the engine switch box has been extended and is grounded to the engine. I purchased a new honda key switch and its not working right either. same number of wires just different colors on the honda switch as opposed to the duromax switch.

I found the problem. Might help if I actually connect the wire from the switch to the ignition coil wire.
