Re: need a picture of a gx390 wired up using a electric start
I didn't wire anything in except another wire to the kill wire. Not 100% sure but think the oil sensor is also with the kill wire. The kill wire goes under the flywheel. The charge wire also does but goes back to the diode so you can identify that one. The key or oil sensor grounds the kill wire to shut it off, so all you need to do is ground that wire or the oil wire and it will stop. The one I did most of the wires were black so color didn't help. I did the elec start clone like 3yr ago not recalling details. Mine had a kill switch and oil sensor both are still hooked up. The other wire from the kill switch is the ground it uses to kill. The elec start has a 12v power and uses that to send power to the start solenoid to turn it over is the only difference....and uses a key switch instead. Plus it has a charging wire and breaker/diode for that.
This is what I wrote about the elec start one I did: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-y...thread-11.html Right at top. |

If I took a photo I could not show you, it was all covered in plastic sleeve and into the box. I slit the sleeve up there and tested for the kill wire, spliced it in, taped it back up and slid the box back on it. All the wires were black I don't know what they went to, only the one I used.

Re: need a picture of a gx390 wired up using a electric start
I just completed my electric start wiring. I cant post a picture because I mounted my switch on the dash where my original exgo key switch was and extended the wiring to the motor but I can help you by telling you whereeach wire should go. Just let me know what youre having problems with. Is this an actual honda gx390 or a clone motor? Reason I ask is because the wire colors are different between from the honda switch than they are with the clone motor.

Re: need a picture of a gx390 wired up using a electric start
Where exactly is the purple wire coming from. Of those 3 you have in your hand, the brown wire goes to the charging coil which comes out from behind the flywheel. The white wire with the ring terminal goes to the hot on the starter solenoid. The black with the male connects to the black female connector coming from the ignition coil. It should be laying right on top of the motor. I see 2 wires in that picture on top of the motor. A white and a black. Its going to be one of those. There should have also been another black wire with a smaller ring terminal attached to the inside of the ignition control box. That wire needs to be grounded.

Re: need a picture of a gx390 wired up using a electric start
Okay and this would be the white with inline fuse correct?. The white/purple cable is the cable thats behind the flywheel. So it will be the black ignition coil wire to the black key start wire, brown to the white/ purple charging coil wire, little black wire grounded . Last question before I attempt this again for the battery cable I see on the diagrams they run it straight to the battery does it need to have a fuse inline? One other question what size cable needs to be used coming off the starter gen to the battery

You got it. You do not need a fuse on the battery wire. Unfortunately I can't help you with the starter generator question. I don't know how that would work. I wasnt aware that you could use the starter generator with the key switch.
