duromax 16 max rpm
I just took my ezgo cart for a ride and gps' d it at 29mph.I'm a little disappointed in the speed but Im not sure if I'm getting max rpm's out the engine. I bypassed the governor by removing the linkage but the gear is still in the engine. I know with the governor intact the engine is governed to 3800 rpm. I know with the HD valve spring this mottor can turn 5000 rpm safely. My question is do I have to install the HD springs in order to get to 5000 rpm or will it do it with the stock valve spring? I know its not safe for the motor to run wide open without the governor but just wondering if it will turn 5000 rpm with the governor bypassd or do I need to install the hd valve springs to turn the higher rpm. I have a tiny tach that I plan to install so I can gauge my rpm but at the moment its not on yet. My goal is to get the cart to run mid 30's.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
Ive read without the springs you can hit 5k but dont hold it there long. The springs are cheap I just ordered mine today and a 8 deg timing advance key.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
I have the springs just haven't installed them. I was just curious if the motor would turn higher rpm with the stock springs, even though its not a good idea. Thanks for answering that. I guess I need to install my tiny tach so I can see what rpm I'm running at WOT.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
Im not running the stock carb. I have a 30mm Mikuni and not sure what jet came in it stock but I need to change it. Its running too rich and I've already leaned it out as much as possible by adjusting the needle.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
It should spin up until it valve floats, or runs out of power to go faster. If it floats then the springs usually make it go faster.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
You can damage the valves/valvetrain. Pushrods can fly off, etc. Usually not unless you do it for a while, but depends on the engine how much abuse it will take. If you want to run it hard shim the springs and check for binding, or put better springs in it, then you don't have to worry about it. My clone springs were $10.

Re: duromax 16 max rpm
Your exhaust and airbox will change the jetting. Yes I run Geoff's springs and 1.3 rockers, it will rev much better than stock. I hit 37mph with it. I ran it with gx200 springs inside the stock ones but they don't help that much, it just stops pulling at 5K more or less. Now it will pull over that no problem but my cheap tach gets strange up there and not wanting to show rpm.
