Default What is the "HOT SETUP" for the Clones?

I'm gathering parts, part numbers, ideas, etc for my upcoming clone build, and I need some guidance for those of you who know better than I.....

What is the "HOT SETUP" for these 420 and 440 clones? What I mean is, what are the better parts to use "externally", such as:

Carb:

Carb Adapter:

Fuel Pump:

Muffler:

Clutch:

Belt:

Motor Plate:

Right now, I'm going with a stock high compression Vegas Carts 440. I was planning on using the upgraded carb that comes with it, but I have a 32mm Kehin carb from a Bravo sled, thought I'd try that? Other than that, I don't have any other parts.

Fuel pump-just a stock B&S round pump. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Briggs-Strat...item3a877f1c5a
Muffler-million choices-if you want easy and quiet use this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUFFLER-BRIG...item3cd88365f9
Carb & adapter-i'm still using stock at the moment so I'm not sure.
Clutch-stock CC primary clutch works good for me.
Belt, I grabbed a HD replacement from Napa-working good.
Motor plate-not sure on your cart. I bought my CC mount from Geoff and I'm very pleased.
Hope i helped a little!

I think we should know about CAMS, too. Big piece of a hot setup.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, still trying to figure out how to mount the motor. I might get a CC mount and just weld it in there somehow. I really like how that mount has the adjusting slots all nice and clean.

Cams work very well with these engines, especially on the top-end. However, theres quite a bit of supporting parts you will need to run a cam and the price goes up quick.

On my setup, once the intake/exhaust/carb jetting is all dialed in, with Geoff's 38 lb springs and 1:3 rockers...it runs like a top. Starts right up with no need for choking everytime. Top speed is around 31gps with 25" tires.

I have no experience with any other mods, but the overall increase in stock torque satisfies my use. I regularly climb over downed trees no bigger than 10" thick and it climbs over just fine when riding through the woods. Pulled several 16" trailers as well.

SO I guess what I am saying is.....getting the clone breathing right and jetted right was the biggest thing to me. Out of the box was good......getting it dialed in was great

Throwing a cam and a billet rod in must make it unreal

Yeah I can see this being a multi stage project. So what carb are you using? How did your jetting end up?

I'm hoping the jetting changes won't be too difficult on the "tuned carb" that comes with the 440. I'm betting I'll be changing that out to a Chinese version of the 30mm Mikuni vac slide carb. They aren't too expensive, but with that change I'll likely do the port work, rockers, and cam. We'll see how good it runs out of the box.
