governor removal
I'm about to start my 420 clone swap, I keep seeing where guys remover the governor shaft and weights from the crank, then have to plug the hole and such. Is it just possible to remove the linkage and let it free float?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: governor removal
Its kind of tricky, but you basically just need to remove the plastic gear in your crankcase.

Re: governor removal
What kind of speed / performance difference are you looking at by removing the Governor?

Re: governor removal
Well Fire, I'm not looking for full bore, just some added RPM without the shutdown at 3600. I already have my valve springs, timing key and carb from Geoffw, and I'm not looking to get ahead of 5k, this is more a farm vehicle. But, when I have to get to the neighbors a mile away, I'd like to make it a bit faster. Maybe in time I'll go billet with cam and such, but for now, mild. I can run 26 mph on flat right now with stock 295 at 3200, so a little more would be fine, they get squirly. I've got 5" lift with 23" bear claws on it, may go with long travel in time.

Re: governor removal
Just starting my G2 Clone 440 build and I'm not looking to break any speed records I just want a reliable farm cart with some more power. I didn't know what kind of improvements would come from removing the governor.

Re: governor removal
Fire, so far, I put the traction control kit in the transaxle and I sorta tweeked that a bit, it's tight to the point of almost a welded unit, but it will let the rear slip on pavement. I also got the ramp and spring kit on the secondary and higher engagement on the primary. I didn't want to be limited to 3600, that's why I'm doing it. Like yourself mine is a farm cart, with a bed, I may try to make it a dump bed in time, sounds like a fun project.
