Default Vegas Carts GX440 Review

Also posted in my thread: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/clone...-440-a-16.html

Vegas Carts Review:

Geoff at Vegas Carts is very knowledgeable, super nice to deal with over the phone. He returns calls and emails pretty quickly. I did have a few tiddly little things that went wrong, he addressed them immediately without question or cost. I'd much rather deal with a real guy who's been there and done that, as opposed to a China Freight "knows nothing", or a Home D***t "handyman wannabe". I understand that everyone has their opinions about which engine is a better deal, etc, etc, etc. But dealing with someone who works on golf carts for a living, and loves doing it......I'm telling you it makes a big difference. Geoff won't let you fail at your project, that's the kind of guy he is.

The engine itself? Excellent product! Everything went together just like it was supposed to. There was good documentation, but for the novice it could be better. But I figure anyone who is attempting to install a GX440 in a golf cart.....really shouldn't be a novice anyway. That type of person will likely be the kind that works on their own cars, trucks, etc too. They should know their way around this thing. If not? Well, a quick call to Geoff and he'll walk you right through what needs done, step by step if need be. But I didn't have any trouble assembling the engine and getting it running. In fact, I started it up on the benchtop and ran it for 15 minutes up there.

First start up was easy, one or two spins and it fired right up. It quit running after that because the 8 degree advance timing key sheared. Called Geoff and he confirmed the problem. Assured me he'd send the replacement keys no cost. So, got it going again a few days later, fired right up and sat and idled for 15 minutes. I installed it in the cart, and drove it that same day. Amazing. Runs like a top. I'm not even close to getting it fully dialed in and I'm already impressed. Lot's of power compared to stock! Some people will tell you that their stock cart does this, does that, whatever.....this engine will blow away any stock engine, period. It's not crazy power, so it's tame enough for a "replacement" of a stock engine, it can even be hooked up to run like a stock golf cart, just more powerful. You'll spend more to rebuild a stock engine than you will to buy a new GX440. In the "stock" form that you receive it in, the 440 will be great, but if you crave more.....there's room to grow! Up to 38 hp is possible. Hmmmmmm.....

I ended up using a few key parts from Vegas Carts to get the engine installed and running. The first was the Club Car engine mount. It's fully adjustable, which is why I got it. No need to get the perfect measurement for the engine position, just get it in there, adjust it, good to go. I also used the carb isolator with the vacuum port for the fuel pump. That also works great. I also used the EZGO header/muffler exhaust pipe. It too worked great, although I had to shorten it for my cart because it hit the frame. But it sounds great and really isn't too loud. It's not nearly as quiet as a stock cart, but it's not an obnoxiously loud exhaust. Very happy with it. The last part I used was the carb intake adapter/pipe. I used it to mount the air filter to, so it's mounted to the outside of the carb. That piece saved me hours of fabbing up something. Great product.

In summary.....Geoff convinced me to get the 440 with his videos, his very helpful threads (even replied to some of mine), and with his word that he knows I will be pleased with how the engine performs. He lived up to his word, and I will continue to buy products from him as this project continues.

If you have any doubts, PM me and we can exchange phone numbers, and I'll tell you the truth in my own words/voice. Or you can call Geoff at Vegas Carts yourself at 702-530-7753 or visit the following link:

Here's some videos of the engine and the cart. Enjoy!

Hi Slonomo, Yes, Geoff is a nice and very helpful guy. I've got one of his clones and kit I'm trying to install in a 99 Ez-go and have a few questions. I can't reach Geoff because of the holidays and wonder if you might know if it's necessary to remove all of the linkages on top of the transaxel in order to get the engine to fit. Currently it hits into them, one is a rod that goes down into the gear casing and I'm not sure what that does. The other possibility is I could raise the rear of the motor to clear those parts if they are necessary to function.
Thanks.

You should start another thread about it, but when I installed my gx390 I cut that shaft off flush with the top of the axle housing.

Slo, I was thinking about this same write up you posted about Geoff AKA Vegas Carts and the 440! I could have wrote the same thing, just added EZGO to it. When things didn't seem right or I couldn't figure out something, a call to Geoff made things right or a part was sent. Since I only have a couple of things left to do to mine (With pics, everybody loves pics) I was going to do a write up as well.

Each cart is different, as is the cart owners taste to their carts uniqueness. Sharing the different things done helps us all.

Nice review write up!

That was one of the most thorough reviews I've ever seen, nice job Slo. It's the truth, Geoff will answer all questions and NOT talk down to you. He really is here to help us all, not to just sell arts like most businesses these days.

Very Nice review Slo. I've been interacting with Jeffery at Vegas Carts, hopefully there's a Jeffery and I'm not calling Geoff Jeffery, lol.

anyhow, I will also post my review of the big block install kit once i have it all buttoned up. But so far it's been nothing but a pleasure to work with them and I would HIGHLY recommend Vegas Carts.

Hope you get that cold taken care of Geoff! I'm also fighting a cold my self.. but my ADD and OCD wont let me stay put! lol
