Blow By?
I bought a cart that Ive been working the kinks out on. It has a preditor 420 built by PFM racing. It seems to have blow by when I first got it I noticed the head gasket was leaking and the motor was not vented. I put a new head gasket on it .It has a parsons racing billet valve and side cover so the original owner had the vents running from the valve cover to the side cover. And nothing letting the air out. I capped the side cover vents and just vented the valve cover today after I beat on it for a little while I noticed the filter on he end of the pcv valve has oil all over it. Does this mean I have bad rings?

Re: Blow By?
Does it run good? What's the compression?

On the other hand, the composite OEM gaskets seal well, although they are thicker than copper. I prefer the composite gasket. Any potential loss of compression from running the thicker gasket can be made up by other means, milling the head, for example. Ernie |

Re: Blow By?
If the engine wasn't vented, then it's going to have some excess pressure inside, and likely is the cause of the oil spraying all over. Make sure you vent the engine in the stock location. On clones the vent is in the valve cover, with a built in pcv valve. You might get a little residue, but it's not anything to worry about.

Re: Blow By?
Yeah the stock pcv valve is built into the valve cover. Some have a tube, some have a breather filter, some have nothing like mine.

Re: Blow By?
I noticed this one has a flap on the inside that lets the pressure out. But the parsons web site says you are suppose to remove it, if you are running it back to the billit crank case and then vent the crank case which the previous owner didn't. Right now I have the crank case sealed and both vents from the valve cover going to a small filter

Re: Blow By?
An OHV will have oil splashing around inside. It should have a baffle that minimizes the oil from going into the vent.
