Default tire size for a 420 clone

Soon I'll be looking for tires to put on my g9 with a 420 clone. Right now it has 20x10x10's on it. I will be changing rims to 12".

The motor has a billet, adjustable timing flywheel set at +8°, rev kit installed and governor removed.

Use will be trail riding on trails that at times have some decent sized hills and muddy conditions.

I found a set of Carlisle AT489's in sizes 25x8x12 for the front and 25x10x12 for the rear in like new condition on my local craigslist for $150. A great deal considering the cheapest I can find these tires in that size is $350.

The motor has the stock g9 primary on it and the secondary clutch is stock but newly rebuilt with a like new sliding sheave, new ramp shoes and a like new spring seat. I also have a brand new double cogged severe duty belt on it.

I'm looking for opinions as far as what size tire is a good choice to run with the carts condition and driving style/use in mind. All my buddies have electric carts and as many of you know, I recently left the electric trail cart scene when I kept busting rearends in my electric big cart. Being able to excel or at least keep up against my buddies is very important so that I don't get the "I told you so's" and laughs from not being able to perform in the woods.

Thanks for all opinions, Boke

With a clone motor.....turning the 25s should be no problem. If you still had the stock motor in it I'd say 22s max. I have 23s on my G1 with a 420 and still have plenty of power to spare. I think a fellow member...Danman...just put 25s on his G1 and is running the same predator clone. He hasn't said anything about it lacking power.

boke, I have some 25s on some 12" steel spokes. Came off a bad boy buggy. I'll look at the manufacture today.

You can turn 25's or 26's with no problem.

I'm still running the stock G1 primary and secondary. Plenty of power and torque. The acceleration has suffered some, but I am hoping that changes when I put the comet duster primary on.

It'll be riding on the tires I have on it now Dan when CAW comes around. I'm just trying to collect parts right now. I'm gonna be getting the jakes LT for it eventually. That's a pricey lift but the ride quality is well worth it. The $150 for the tires is a good deal, I'll probably pick them up anyway. I might have to look into a different primary clutch and maybe a cut rear sheave later if it feels like it might struggle on hills.

But then again, it coulda been your club car clutches just kidding ya Dan.
